Hey everybody

I told you I had alot of stupid questions. What about chewing gum -- will I have to stop chewing?

Don't laugh at my questions--I just want to make sure I'm as prepared as possible.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

many weight loss surgeons say NO on the gum - because if you accidentally swallow it chances are very good that it will cause a stricture and have to be removed. my weight loss center has in the paperwork that a person can chew gum WITH CAUTION after 6 months. in the last month i must say that i have twice taken 1/2 of a piece of gum and chewed for a few minutes, but while i am still very aware of it in my mouth i will throw it out. yes, my friends i am a former occasional gum swallower - ewwwe

Ditto what Wannabeskinny said. My doctor said the same thing. But I ain't gonna lie I have cheated and had a few sugarfree pieces. Just better be sure you don't swallow it.

I know that it is a NO NO, but I love my SF gum as much as I do my coffee!!! I have never ever been a gum swallower, and would rather break a bone then have that "lump in my throat" from swallowing gum. Just be careful if you are like me and have to have it.

I use to chew gum once in a while before surgery and since surgery I have not had even one stick of gum. I am scared to death that I might swallow it by accident. I have never swallowed gum before but I feel there is always a first time and I am not going to chance it.

My surgeon never said....and I chew gum daily. But if swallowed it would be bad and I would have to call my surgeon right away, so I guess you take a chance.

Basically this is a no-no due to the getting-stuck-when-accidentally-swallowed-and-needing-a-scope-to-get-it-out reason. (This discussion comes up from time to time)
So, be careful if you must.

As for the bad breath problem, that's due to ketosis, which takes place during the rapid weight loss stage, and your breath is ketosis breath. Getting in lots of water will dilute the ketones and improve the problem. Once you're done with rapid losing, it will go away.
