| Does drinking too much liquid expand the pouch???
Hi all, I'll be seeing my doc next Friday so I will ask him, but the issue is in my mind all the time. I am 15 days post-op and have only lost 10 lbs. I am doing well with the food (small portions, etc.), but I am drinking lots of liquids at once. I does hurt a bit, but it is so hot and humid down here that I really need my ice cold lemon water. Have you been told or read that the pouch would expand with too much liquid at once???? Or does liquids pass to the intestine relatively fast??? Any advise or words of wisdom are welcome!!!!

I am preop and want to know that also. I live on water! I know you need to sip sip sip, but can you sip too much? I mean as long as you are stopping before meals and rite after.

i could be wrong but i dont think so. from what i understand, liquids dont stay in the pouch long enough to stretch it. they empty out really quickly which is why they tell us dont drink and eat at the same time because it will bring the food out with it (and you will get hungry again quickly).

I think kenyar is right. The liquid goes out quickly but you still dont need to drink too much at a time just sip sip sip... good luck ...It does get easier with time.

Kenya is correct. I know this because I had a test after Christmas called Barium swallow test. Basically I had to drink this yucky, yucky stuff. Did I say Yucky? And the doctor took xrays as the fluid entered my pouch or should I say bypassed the pouch like going full speed down the freeway. They let me watch the live screen as it happened and I kid you not the stuff never even stopped. Straight shot to the intestine. It was so fast they had trouble catching it on the screen.I would not have belived it but I seen it with my own eyes. You shouldn't worry about it stretching the pouch but it is not good to gulp alot at one time. Expecially if it is uncomfortable for you. Just sip sip sip.

I could not handle cold water for months and months. The minute I drank something cold I would cramp up for several minutes. Just keep sipping and try something at room temp.

Your stomach had a muscle valve at the end that could trap and hold fluids. The pouch has an open hole at the end. It cannot trap and hold fluids.
