Default Surgery soon & freaking out!!

OK, so surgery is on the 4th & im starting to get really nervous! Im a little emotional today & my son is also home from Iraq & will going back on the 9th. Im emotional just having him home & worry that every time he turns around & walks out the door, he may not be back. And I guess it's true what they say about how important it is to not make any drastic decisions when your stressed. I was out running around this morning & almost bought a car! A car I can't afford. So glad I didn't buy it! Geez, what's wrong with me?! Im excited about the surgery & I know it will be the best thing for me, I guess im just nervous because this has been such a long haul & with that, comes so much time to think about everything over & over again...almost makes you crazy Have any of you felt like this right before surgery? I also wanted to write my son a letter, just in case I dont make it through the surgery. I know this seems a bit extreme, but I already lost my husband to cancer when my son was 11 & I worry that something will happen to me & then he wont have a mom or a dad. And I just want to be sure he knows how much I love him. Im dreading just the idea of sitting down & putting myself in that kind of emotional state to write this letter to my son, but I feel I have to. Doc, any inspirational or insightfull words of wisdom you can offer, is greatly appreciated! I could use it right now

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Many people write letters to loved ones before ANY anesthesia. I only said to hub before I went under, "Cremation...no service...got it??" But we are a couple of few words.

Being scared is OK and totally normal. I tell people who are scared that it is important to be more ready than scared...then you know it is time.

I am not sure if I could go through it with the "boy" home for so short a time...I will throw the idea out there that maybe you want to delay the surgery a couple weeks so you can have the surgery after he has gone back overseas? Just a thought.

Ditto judijo! It is perfectly normal to be scared and to write the "just in case" letter. You are having major surgery. May God bless your son and allow him to be safe in Iraq and return home safely.

Your reactions are quite normal. In fact, I know some people bawled all the way to the OR.
You'll do fine ((((((HUGS))))))

Even though I wanted surgery worse then anything I ever wanted I was scared! I was one of those who cried the whole time I was getting prep for surgery. I'm sure the tears dried up while I went under, there were many. Would I have done it again? Oh yeah, just wished I'd done it sooner.

I wanted to write letters to my children but in the end I couldn't get myself to do it. I did fill out a POA and on there there is a spot to put some personal notes and that is what I did. My ex left when my kids were 11 & 13, I know not the same a dying, but I have raised them alone since then.

This is an exciting and nerve racking time. Hang in there. It is all worth it.

What you are feeling is very normal. Everyone has their own situation going on in their life, but we all, for whatever reasons, were worried. You'll be fine. Hugs to you. May God bless you and your son.

I did the POA and later when DH and I were traveling, I did a letter, just in case. I had some pretty good anxiety just prior, I actually think that was the worst of the whole journey!

Thanks everyone! Glad to hear im not the only one feeling anxiety & doing silly thing's before surgery. In a way,im really glad my son is home right now. We didn't plan it that way, it just so happens his vacation time coincides w/the time im having surgery. So in some way, i think this was supposed to happen when he was home on leave. At least if anything should happen during or right after surgery, he will be here. Thank you everyone for your good thoughts & well wishes..it means a lot to me.

I also wrote letters to parents and my husband. I was so nervous that I made some really screwed up decisions the last week before the surgery. I guess that's all normal.
