Default Did your pouch hurt after throwing up???

Hi guys, I am three weeks post-op and I am doing relatively well. But I just had two bad experiences one after the other that made me puke. One was with a small piece of chicken and the next day with two spoons of rice. I ended up throwing up like crazy. That was two days ago and my pouch still hurts. Is that normal? I'll see my doc tomorrow and ask him, but I was thinking maybe something got loose inside... Has this happened to any of you???

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

At three weeks out I was still on puree food. I dont think rice is a good idea at this point. And what I found was if it made me ill early out I was just not ready for it. As for being sore well your staple lines are still fresh and no where near healed and any type of irritation will not be taken well. But that said be sure to talk to your Dr about this but as for hurting yourself I would think that if you tore something you would be in more then in just pain. But everyone is different and its good you see him tomorrow. Perhaps a day back on liquids will help with the hurt and give your pouch time to rest.

my surgeon gives us "in case books" he says if you should vomit go back to liquids until pain stops, he says it is due to swelling of the pouch and stoma.

I am three weeks post op also and went through the same thing this week. I am a little sore also. Please let me know what your doctor say because I do not see my doctor until the 24th. I have not tried any rice yet because I know rice clog up the kitchen sink so I am not going to try on my drain (LOL). Anyway feel better and us posted.

Many old-timers swear off rice totally. It can swell in your pouch and make you very uncomfortable. Even at 1 1/2 years out I only do a few teaspoons. Plus it's pure carbs - and since we try not to eat a lot of carbs I'm pretty picky about which ones I eat. I'd rather have something I like a lot better than rice.

NQb, i'VE heard that about rice. I used to be able to put down the rice. It's one of the foods that I'm afraid to try now. As far as throwing up Nena, I have done alot of that lately. Turns out I was strictured. This happens for 1 in 4 of all wls patients at 3-5 weeks out. It's a simple procedure to fix it. So if you're not getting down the amount that you used to then talk it over with your Dr.

Good luck. I hope all goes well with your visit.

Rice is evil...the only rice I eat is rice with sauces and very little and chew the heck out of it. Rice served at chinese places is the worst because it is super stick and clumps together. You are probably to early out to even try that. Remember to chew chew chew. When you think you have chewed too much...chew some more!!!

To answer your question, EVERYTHING HURTS AFTER THROWING UP! The "liquids only until it stops hurting" is pretty good advice, IMO, but call your surgeon's office to be sure.

That being said, RICE AND PASTA IS EVIL! Both swell in your pouch. And they are pretty much empty calories.

Hope you feel better soon.
