| Having a Freak Out Moment...
I just, and I do mean JUST completed the 5dpt. It was great and I followed the rules, BUT I am having somewhat of a mini-meltdown. Lot going on in life at the moment, and my nerves are going through the roof. I have the mental munchies (not giving in, ate some baked chicken breast instead), but these munchie thoughts have me freaking out. How soon is too soon to do the 5dpt again? Can it be extended, like, 3 days on liquids and 2 days each on everything else? I am just scared that my pouch hasn't shrank back down enough yet. Maybe doing it again will help. Ya think?

JER. 29:11 My Story - Short version: I weighed 332 in 2002 when I had my RNY. Over the next 2 years I lost down to 175. Then I started breaking the rules just a tad, then a tad more, then... You get the idea. I have been up and down between 205 and 290 for the last 4 or 5 years. I'm here again, trying again, and won't give up until I get it right.

i dont think it works but some ppl swear by it. if you waterload you should be fine. you are far enough out to follow te 'Pouch Rules' article on here.
i think the reset is mental torture and no one who is past the pre-op mentality that doc refers to all the time; should do it or even think about it.
i have no suggestions. hang in there. you will find your way again.

Hi. The 5dpt is something I found out about on here the other day. I had never heard of it either. It is a 5 day period where you kind of "reset" your surgery pouch, to get back to where you physically can't eat as much. I had my surgery 6 1/2 years ago and had lost 157 pounds, but a few years ago I started gaining back some. I ultimately gained back 55 pounds by grazing and over-eating. I can tell a major difference from doing the 5dpt, just went through a bad spell today where my mind and my body weren't in agreement. I feel some better now, but might do the reset again soon anyway, just as a precaution. I didn't have the surgery to still be heavy, so I have to do something. I think maybe being the first day off the 5dpt and able to decide what to eat made me a little uncomfortable because I had already goofed it up once. Don't want to goof again.

LA, instead of doing the 5-day again, drop back to the basics and start from the beginning. Baby your newly renovated pouch by spending a week on liquids, then move up through purees and soft foods until you are back to a full menu again in a month or so. It'll give your pouch a rest, further recondition it if needed and help you focus your mind on making this tool yours again. I think it'll have more value than another 5-day.
There's more than one tool available to us. Don't overuse one just because it helped once. Try some of the rest, in this case something you know worked for you before.

First off, take a couple of deep breaths and relax and sit back.
Meditate if you can, enjoy a good book or good music or both.
Panic is your worst enemy. If you panic, you will lose perspective of everything, and what is not a big problem seem the biggest issue you've encountered, and what is the true issue that must be faced and dealt with, will seem to be a very minor problem when in truth it may make or break the deal.
Where you are at is the most difficult stage of the game.
You are still caught up somewhere in the "must diet" mentality. You may have given your pouch a program, but you haven't given your brain a program, and so, your tool and your brain and you are not in sync.
You are also caught up in the fear of regaining, and of going back to where you were before. Do not get *hooked* with a *program*, you need to remember that what works for someone may not work for you, and what worked once, may not work again either.
What is most important is to assess what's behind the behavior you are upset about, and see if you can set up a program that will take your mind away from food. Exercise, hobbies, whatever. This takes time and effort to build, but you must take that time for yourself, and for your future.
I suggest you take a good look at what you ate and how much--assess it honestly. Think back to what you ate pre-op. Are you back up to your pre op foods and amount? I would think not so, because your pouch is still in place. Plan and prepare your daily menu beforehand, and put all other foods away out of sight. You also must do this for the rest of your life, not just until you lose the weight you gained back.
If you must reset, then reset your life to a pattern to follow all your life, not, this something when something goes wrong, that something when something else goes wrong. Plodding along the same path is the best bet to become a winner.
(((((HUGS)))))
hot topics, 5DPT is for those who are already at goal and find themselves slipping, not for those who are still in the rapid losing stage, and learning their pouch and readjusting their life style to fit the pouch style. It is only a method to readjust the *feeling* of the pouch, and NOT to be depended on to ultimately bail you out of trouble, or to *fix* everythingi that in truth needs to be *fixed*.

I HATE the pouch reset...and I think Kenya hit it on the head...IT"S TORTURE!!! LOL...I've done it a couple of times....but I was really doing it when I didn't need to lose anymore....still don't....I find getting back to basics is key....
PROTEIN first...veggies 2nd...avoid carbs/fat
Push your water...and you'll be fine...it REALLY is that simple....stick to the plan and keep your eye on the prize!!

Hi sweety. Stop beating yourself up over this. It is going to take time to get back on track. Just keep eating your protein first then if you have room veggies and good carbs if you have room. Don't forget to drink drink drink... water is best. Get your exercise in and chew chew ... you are going to get back on track I know you can do it. (((hugs)))dixie
