Default Going back to work?

I have been on short term disability from work since December. I am now at the point where my surgery needs to be approved. The insurance company said it will take about a week. I have no idea after approval when I'll actually have the surgery. I NEED to be back to work by June 24th or I'll have no income coming in.

I know everybody is different but if there are no complications, how soon might I hope to get back to work? I mean, should I feel well enough after 4 weeks if I "have" to go back? I'm having the open surgery plus hernia repair. Time is really starting to freak me out and I've told my surgeon's office and the insurance company I really need to get this over with.

Am I fooling myself into thinking that IF I have the surgery - say May 20 - will I feel like going back? I have a desk job (data entry) so there's nothing physical. I'm just really starting to get nervous since I can't afford to have no money coming in. The little bit on disability has already been a nightmare so I'm definitely not looking to having nothing!!

Any thoughts? Thanks for your help.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Although everyone is different. I went back to work after 4 weeks and had no problems. I could have done it after 2 weeks.

I went back after 4 weeks but probably could have gone back at 2. I had hernia repair 3 months before my RNY and was out of work for 2 weeks. Your body will require some rest but you should be fine. Good luck!

You may be tired, but 4 weeks is entirely doable. One person recently stayed home for 2 whole days before going back to her regular schedule, but that's a wee bit extreme! I was back in front of the class two weeks post-op, stayed half days, and did okay, but it's a bit different than sitting in front of a desk. By three weeks, I was back on full days with no problems.

Your mileage may vary!

I went back after a month. I may have been able to do it in 2 or 3 but I would get tired very easily.

I took my sweet time, but was back to work in less than 4 weeks. I could have gone back in a week if I wasn't needing my daily naps!!! Felt GREAT, just tired easily!!

I had my surgery on a Wednesday and could have gone back to my desk pushing papers (i oversee group home operations) the following Monday. Heck my discharge paperwork even said I could go back to work as long as I was not on the pain meds. The bonus was that I was unemployed and didn't start a new job till 2 1/2 months after surgery so the best thing to do is not listen to me. lol

I took 6 weeks, but I could afford it. I COULD have gone back at 4.5-5 weeks without feeling like crap.

BUT you are having open surgery...that may change things dramatically. Your doc may not approve you to go back <6 weeks post op.
