I'm 4 days post-op and haven't had a bowel movement, I've been on a clear liquid diet for 12 days now. Should I be conconcerned ?, I'm passing alot of gas.

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

How long's it been since you've had solid food? You were cleaned out pretty effectively in your pre-op flush, weren't you? If so, four days later, what's built up to expel but air in an empty intestinal tract?

When things start to move again, you may find that a stool softener is a great blessing! It often takes a little while to regulate things after the bowel fills because you're still eating not a whole lot of anything.

Too early to worry yet. Go out and treat yourself to a nice spray bottle of Febreze instead!!

Yes, you shouldn't have much in there to move out yet. Also, when the bowel gets moved around and adjusted, it has to have time to recuperate. If you are passing gas, then something is moving in there, and that's good. Just keep getting in your protein and plenty of fluids. Congratulations on your surgery and your new life!

The bowels go on strict after any kind of surgery whether or not you are eatting. Hang in there things will get moving ... and as everyone else has said ... stool softener will be helpful. I can't remember when I had my first BM after surgery, but I remember being worried too. If you are on a liquid diet it might be bit.

Since you're on liquids, I wouldn't worry too much.
HOWEVER, if you are in doubt, especially since you're still early out, call your surgeon and ask. Always remember, your surgeon has the last say. While everyone will share here their own experiences with you, you need o keep in mind that it may not be exactly the same for you, so, always confirm with your surgeon.

What ever you do, do not take a laxative - I made that mistake at your stage and have never been so sick in my life!!!! I was worried I was constipated so I asked the nurse, she said you're only constipated if it is difficult to evacuate and painful; not necessarily because your schedule has changed. As your food normalizes over the next weeks/months, your bowels will readjust and you'll settle into a new schedule. It is also normal for bm's to be looser early out.

At 2 weeks I went to my PCP, whose wife is a WLSer. He asked flat out, "Constipated?"

LOL

I said, "Like concrete, YES!"

Two stool softener capsules (Colace or the WAY cheaper generic, available at Sam's or Costco) at night before bed. Every night since. All smooth now, pretty much.

Do NOT break these capsules open, thinking you can mix it with anything. The med inside not palatable at all.

TALK TO YOUR SURGEON'S OFFICE! Don't do anything without talking to them first.
