Default Hospital Stay

I know that you can expect to stay in the hospital for 2-3 days with the rny surgery, but my question is about how much of that time you had people like your spouse there with you. I am worried about my husband being really bored, but at the same time, I want him to be there with me. The problem is that we live 45 min one way away from the hospital I am having surgery at and the parking is really expensive in Philly, so he won't want to come and go very much. Did you all sleep a lot when you were in the hospital? Were stairs really hard when you got home, cuz my bedroom is upstairs in our apartment. Thanks as always for the responses.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

That is a great question. I can't wait to hear what others say. I am having surgery next week, and while I know that my DH will be there with me during the day while the kids are in school, I don't want to be there that long at night by myself.

I don't have any family here so I won't have them to come and visit. My inlaws and I really don't get along so I feel that if they did come it would be uncomfortable. My friends have said that they will come and visit, but I also live about an hour away from the hospital.

Sorry I cut into your question. I can just relate so much to what you are feeling.

FOR me my hospitol gave me a private room right in front of the nurses stations being we require so much care....

THEY would have allowed my husband there as much as he wanted to but he had to be at work and help with the 3 kids at home while i was recovering. I didnt mind...he took a few days off when i was home from the hospitol to tend the kids but then i was fine after that.

I had my surgery on WEDNESDAY..and got released early saturday morning. THE one important thing and thankful i had one was i bought a $10 prepaid phone card so that i had no problem calling anywhere from the hospitol. MY home was not within the free calling area so i phoned home all the time to check on everyone. I was mostly focused in the hospitol with my walking ....it went very fast the days in the hospitol.

HOPE i helped some ....but my hubby wasnt there alot due to the kids and i was fine with this.

Default Hubby

When i had my surgery my husband was at home most of the time taking care of my 4 kids. He came up for visits but didnt stay very long. I think that was ok because i was resting alot of the time. The nurses at St vincents were so helpful. I think if he stayed to long he would have drove me nuts so its better he didnt. Either way you should be fine. If he needs to take time off for it though, let him save the time for when you come home from the hospital, you can use his help more there then in the hospital. Hope that helps. LisaMarie

Hi Janae,

You ask the best questions! My hubby came by every day and brought my brother too. He brought a book and we had the tv and in general we just sort of hung out, like we were home. He would bring sandwiches to eat and would go for a walk when I was napping. After my first day, I didn't sleep too much, at least not in the bed. I would get up early and sit in the chair. I asked them to bring me one of those big, high backed chairs and I would spend the day there. I took frequent walks around the hall, so hubby came in handy there too.

The hospital I was in was a little over an hour from my house, so it was good for them to come and hang out all day, rather than come and go a couple of times each day. Although the official visiting hours were something like noon to 9:30, they didn't care when he came or left.

Hope this helps!

Hugs - Robin

thank you everyone for responding to this question. I am having a hard time trying to figure out the whole daycare scene for while I am in the hospital. I would really like to have a friend take my kids for at least the first day/night so that hubby can be there with me, but my one friend that has been so great through this just figured out that she will be in Spain with her hubby when I have surgery. She feels really bad about it, but I don't want her to feel bad. I would go to Spain with my hubby too if I got the chance, and she has really been looking forward to it. I am hoping that the people of my church will help out, and I am sure that it will, I just have a hard time asking. I am going to bring my pda with me so that I can read scriptures, play solitare, and listen to my music, but I am wondering if I will go nuts with nobody visiting me. I guess that there is a big chance that I will have to share a room also, so I am not really looking forward to that aspect, but oh well, minor sacrifices right? Again thanks for all the responses.

ACTUALLY, in the hospitol i had no attention span to do anything...tv, reading....few phone calls made thats about all. I wasnt sleeping either being everytime i slept i set off all kinds of alarms being i stop breathing and wasnt diagnosed with sleep apnea.
GO figure....
SURE wish you lived near me i would help out with the kids while u were in the hospitol, being i am a family daycare provider, i help all my clients in situations and work extended hours if needed to help out families and friends.

GOOD LUCK! all will work out people will help i know i managed with mine. MY youngest was 2 at time of my surgery and i made my hubby go back to work the monday following my hospitol release on the saturday. I was able to tend him just no lifting and i had trained him well in advance to step up for my diaper changes so i didnt lift and bend to much!
good luck
lisa
are u near me maybe im actually not sure where u are located...xoxox

I am located in New Jersey. I would love to have ya as a neighbor. I usually bake for my neighbors, but maybe that wouldn't be the best in this situation. I will deffinately have to invest in a good phone card to use in the hospital. Thanks again for all the info and support.

YES the phone card for me was must being in the hospitol they only allowed local calls. MY home isnt that far from the hospitol but i was out of the calling area.
IT was best i called people cause they always seemed to ring me when i was in the bathroom or
doing one of my many walks. SO i was thankful i got
one at the local gas station. BUT for the most part
i was up for alot of visitors more for vanity reasons.
NOT being able to shower....was hard.

JERSEY is soo close! I had my best friend in
college in OLD bridge, just past the outer bridge
crossing.......!! I am eastern LONG ISLAND, north shore!

ALL the best
