| Question about maintaining
Hi everyone,
I've got a question about maintaining. I am 6 months out and am down to 155 as of this morning. I am very happy with the results of my surgery and the new me, the problem is I don't want to lose anymore. When I sit down and eat I still eat only a small amount and I am full, so my question is how do you boost the amount of calories you take in to start maintaining when only a little fills me up? Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks!

| dennis - i am going to bump this so that more people who are at goal can add imput. it is my understanding that you just need to add a little here and there slowly, to prevent weight gain.

All I did to maintain was to increase my intake a bit, not through larger meals, but I added a bit of planned snacking. I've been holding this weight without doing anything special since the end of July.
At your height, it wouldn't surprise me if your body still wants to shed a few more pounds. Technically, your BMI still puts you "overweight". My first goal, set by the doctor, was 184. I blew through that like a Paris cab driver at rush hour! Folks around me (especially my dear wife) worried that I was losing too much, but the body had a plan, and this was it.
I have never been at this weight in my adult life. It's less than I was planning, but I like it! It's where my body wants to be, and it holds itself there. Sometimes I'll put on a couple of pounds, but then they shed just as fast, and I don't try to figure it out, I just go with it.
Be flexible, and don't try to peg your weight at a level your body isn't happy with.
You've done well so far. It took me 7 months to reach my body's goal. (The gals just hate it that we lose so well!! )

I started getting nervous when I went under 130 and upped my portions a little and came to a stop. But I was also at 18 months out. I would think you are going to lose some more.

Thanks for the advice, I know my body will decide where it wants to be, but it's hard to imagine losing much more when I can already feel details on my hip bones and such, of course thats new to me, because I've never been able to feel much detail there. Guess I won't worry about it and as long as the doc is happy I won't worry, and I see them again the end of June.

| You lost really fast! I'm glad you're feeling well and it is an interesting place to be ~ after trying to lose weight for a good deal of our lives, all of a sudden we can't figure out how to stop! I think CT's snack plan makes sense ~ just eat healthy foods and you can't go wrong. Even protein shakes, cheese and crackers with fruit, that sort of thing will keep your energy high and still add the calories needed to maintain. Doc will probably be on later and give you the ratio for calories needed per lb to maintain your weight ~ I'm guess around 1400 -1600 for our size. My body also did it's own thing and I've maintained within 5lbs since about August without really trying. Now, to say without trying doesnt mean I eat anything I want as much as I want, but following our eating plan and exercising sensibly. Again, congrats on your success!

Dennis, I know how you feel. I never in my wildest dreams put myself at this weight! I didn't even know it existed, but my body found it!! Heck, I'd have been happy at 190!!

You are six months out. This means, you have arrived at the time where you will actually become able to get in more in one sitting than in the first six months. The first 6 months, at the very beginning, your pouch and innards are healing, and readjusting, and getting used to the new plumbing. This stage lasts for about the first six months. Beyond that, the pouch will gradually become able to accomodate a little bit more food than before. So, start increasing the amount you eat per sitting by one or two mouthful slowly. Aroung the time you are approaching your first surgiversary, you should be able to get in 1000-1200 kcals daily. Just remember to chew very very well, eat slowly, and never drink with meals. A strategically timed good protein snack will also help in increasing your intake so that it equals your output. Talk it over with your nut about this also.
