Default I have not taken my protein for a month!!!

I have tried so many kinds and flavors and just can't get them down.. I don't know what else to try. Does anyone know if not taking my protein will slow my weight loss down because the 1st month I was taken the protein I lost 25lbs..I guess my taste buds were different then but now I hate the taste and I lost about 8 lbs in the last 3-4 weeks. I have spent soooo much on different protein flavors and brands and they all taste like poooo!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Are you eating any kind of protein at all?

Have you tried the unjurry unflavored protein? I think Isupre makes one also?

I will let some of the others respond to your question of will it slow your weight loss because I am still pre op and yes I know protein is rite up there with vitamins but others can answer this better. I just wanted to throw you a few unflavored options.

Please keep trying to get your protein in.

Have you tried Nectar or Matrix? The Choc Truffle, Twisted Cherry, Fuzzy Navey & Cookies & Cream are very good. It is the only protein I can get down. I know it is tough. My surgeon always tells be to try my best, but I must get a min of 40 grams of protein if I am having problems. Though I always shoot for 60 to 80. If you can try to get in as much protein when eatting. As least do 50% to 75 % protein betfore you eat anything else. Do you have a Vitamin Shoppee near you? They offer a money back guarnette on all of there protein powders. If you don't like you just take it back. I am not sure how not taking your protein effects you after a month. I mean in regards to weight loss. Though my surgeon said that in the long run the weight loss will stop if your are not getting your protein in. You might lose too much muscle mass, of which you need to burn fat. Hang in there it does get easier!

The only protein drink I like is chocolate with skim milk and 1-2 TBLS of peanut butter on ice in a blender. Yum!! But I personally think you will be fine eating your protein amounts daily instead of drinking it. I loved shrimp and fish at your stage, I did not do much protein shakes either but you must go over this with your doc or nut. Mine was fine with eating chewable proteins than the liquids. I think the liquid proteins are for if you cannot eat enough of your protein requirement early on.

I do have a Vitamin Shoppe and that is where I bought the Nectar Strawberry/Kiwi, maybe I can take that back the froth was bad. I just came from Walgreens and I bought some protein bars that have 19g per bar I bought some string cheese and some nuts (not sure if the nuts go down) but I'm trying to get ANYTHING with protein...I read up on the flavorless but the reviews still say it has an awful smell. I'm really fustrated with the slow weight loss so at this point I'm willing to try anything.

I like the Atkins Bars with between 15-18 gm of protein. Like you, I cannot do protein drinks...I will hurl every time I try. I did see in a mag. some protein shots in a 3oz tube that has like 25gm of protein...I could get down 3oz.....I usually just try to eat as much protein in a day I can....its is still only about 50gms though....

Yes, if you don't get your protein in, not only will it slow down your weight loss, but your body will break down your muscles to provide the protein you need for life, and that will make you feel weak.
You MUST get protein in somehow. You are almost two months out, so you should be able to eat a variety of foods by now. If you are relying only on supplements for protein, it's time that you started trying to get protein in from real food--dairy products, legumes, fish, soft meat, etc.
If you've been cleared for meats, try cooking them with crock pots, that will soften up and moisten the meats and most post ops seem to do well with them.

I couldn't stand the protein powders or the bars either so I had to get all my protein from real foods. Here's a sample of what I was eating at 2 months out:

English muffin with 1 egg and canadian bacon 17g
apple slices and peanut butter 4g
M-star burger and pickles 13g (it's a veggie burger in the freezer section)
laughing cow cheese and 3 crackers, handful of nuts 6g
pork roast, broccoli and cheese 15g
4 oz yogurt 4g
Total: 59g protein

Here's another day:
2 slices canadian bacon & sm. bagel 16g
cereal with 4 oz milk and powdered milk added, 18g
1/2 banana 1g
1C chili 22g
1C hot chocolate 10g
Total: 67g

You should be able to get it from real foods at your stage. Im with Doc and the rest on this. That is why they call them supplements is your supplementing for what you dont get. You will still need some type but try to get it from your foods right now and mabye with the others suggestions you can find somthing out there that will help you. Go to walmart and stand in the protein supplement isle and just look. You dont have to run all over the place and expensive shops to find somthing that will help you. They will have smaller sizes to try also.

Creamy peanut butter on spoon helped me alot just lickng what I could take in without getting sick. Shimp frozen pulling out just a few pieces and fixing them Is great also. Tuna...... Cottage cheese etc. Dont give up. Doc is right your body is gonna start pulling from muscle etc and that is not good. Dont fix somthing and mess somthing else up. Remember food is brain food. Just to funtion on a daily basis you need your brain. Keep posting and let us know how your doing.

I always drink protein shakes. I do not recomend Unjury unflavored. It still has a slight taste and smell. I favor Nectar brand in Chocolate Truffle. It is so creamy and chocolaty. I have also tried the more fruity flavors in the Nectar brand and they do have a bit of a froth. The Chocolate Truffle does not though. I just ran out and I am now wanting to try the Vanilla Tort flavor. Me myself I prefer the more creamy flavors. They go down smooth. I normally drink my protein shakes for breakfast and lunch because that is the time when I don't really have time to sit and eat and will end up scarfing down something and you know how the pouch does not like that. So I end up not getting in nearlly enough protein. By doing the shakes I get enough calories to count as a meal and my protein. It may not work for everyone but it works great for me. I feel great as well.
Another thing you can try is mixing your protein powder in with your food such as yogart. I know a lot of people do that. I've tried it before. Pretty good. Another thing is sugar free tang with a scoop of vanilla protein powder I heard it tastes like a creamsicle. I haven't tried that one yet.
well I wish you all the best with this and be sure to get in your protein. It is very important and can effect your weight loss.
Wishing you all the best. Big hugs!
