Default my left side is hurting!

Hey, This is my first time posting. Here is alittle about myself. My name is Pam, I had my Roux-en-Y lap procedure on Nov.7,2006. I'm 5 days post-op. My weight was 268lbs per surgery. My question is, on my left side I'm having some sharp pains around where my drain line is. I really only hurts the most when I'm sitting. It feels almost like a side stitch. I go back to the doc on Nov.14 and get my staples and drain line out. I'm hoping that it will be better after that. I was wondering if anyone else experienced pain on there left side right after surgery? By the way I really enjoy this site.
Thanks,
Pam aka freebird80

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome to the board, Pam, thank you for joining us.
Congratulations on joining the loser's bench.
The pain you are experiencing may just be that the drain is irritating your innards, but you should call your doc as soon as possible, and ask. This early out, if there is anything that is painful, or seems to be out of the ordinary, best to go to your surgeon.

((((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.

Arrow Hey Pam...

Welcome!!!
Did you have open or lap???

My doctor didn't put drain tubes...that's why I was wondering....??
Anyway...I did experience a lot of pain on my left side though.

I've heard this is common...in laproscopic surgeries...b/c one of the trocars on the left side does a lot of the movement...and this is a big part of the pain...the tissues are responding.

SO...all of this to say if you had OPEN...then ignore everything above!!! LOL.

WELCOME...glad you are with us!!
Congrats on the loosers side!!!

I had a lap proc. done. I hope after I go to the doctor on Tuesday and get everythind out it will feel better.
Thanks to everyone who responded, I appreciate any feedback. The pain is not imbearable, when I'm up and walking it's not so bad.

Well i guess it normal and you could have good all gas going on still in the stomach. INTERESTING you said walking helped. I would still touch base with the surgeon. HOW are your liquids going??? i imagine your sip sip sipping. I konw the first days for me i found my pouch loved warm broth best. even though it was 90 degrees out!
ALL the best and plz if any more questions arise were all here for support.

I had a lot of pain on my right side which led me to believe my surgeon must because everyone said their left side hurt the most. But as everyone has said please call your surgeon and touch base with him. He is the best judge since he performed it. Good luck and you will feel much better when the drains are out.

Pam, I know right after surgery I did have pains in my left side and then they moved to the right side. I thought I was crazy so when I went for my appointment with my surgeon, I told him about it and he told me it was normal. I would have pains that moved from side to side for a while while everything was moving back into place after being blown up with all the gas. But my suggestion for you is to ask your surgeon just to be safe.

Welcome to the board. Hope to hear more from you.
