Default Having surgery on Tuesday!!!

I am having LAP RNY on Tuesday. I am so many different emotions right now I don't know which way to turn. But I just have a few questions if someone wouldn't mind answering them.

First, I know the first week after surgery I am on clear liquids. Here is my question, I bought the Isopure Blue Raspberry. I am only allowed to have 3, 3oz dixie cup meals a day. How am I going to get the protein that I need when the Isopure for one serving is 45-50g of protein. I understand that I will be getting some protein, but when you are supposed to have atleast 80-90gms a day how is that possible?

Second, what would you reccomend that I stay away from? I hate to vomit and will avoid it at all cost so which foods did you find made you sick?

Third, with the protien bars, is OK to eat a whole one eventually? How long does it take to get to that point?

And lastly, what would you reccomend taking to the hospital?

I appreciate your help.

TIA,
Jolie

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hi Jolie,

Congratulations and good luck with your surgery. I'll be thinking about you on Tuesday.

I don't have an answer for your first question. I did not start my protein intake until I was cleared for stage 2. Maybe not the smartest thing, but the last thing I was thinking about was any sort of intake that first couple of weeks.

I have only had two bad food experiences. One was with a greasy food - half of a potato pancake - very, very bad experience and I have stayed away from anything greasy since then. And the other was with peanuts. I had a few peanuts and while they did not make me vomit, they caused great discomfort for a whole night - I basically felt like I had a knot in chest. No more nuts for me!

I also don't have an answer about the protein bars. I'm 3 1/2 months out and never eat one at one sitting. I usually have about a quarter at a time.

And finally, bring your own pillow, chap stick, your favorite hand lotion and some very light reading like magazines. You won't have too much concentration power, so nothing heavy like War and Peace! I also brought my ipod, but didn't use it much.

Again, good luck, Jolie!

Hey Jolie, wow, this Tuesday huh? Thank you for asking those questions. My date is for the 4th of April and I am nervous about all the little details too. Welcome to the board. Where is your location? Are you in New Jersey too? Who are you going to for the surgery and support group? Sorry I don't have answers, just more questions....lol. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers this week. Please let us know how it all goes. I am glad that you are here.

Thanks for all of your replies. All of the information is very helpful. Janae, yes I am in New Jersey, south central. Dr. Borao is doing my surgery, and I have gone to the Monmouth, and Ocean support groups.

I will let you know as soon as I am able how everything went. I am getting so excited!

Talking I am such a dorkfish.....

I have been reading so many posts by newbies that I have gotten them confused. I just sent an email back to you asking for your surgery date....lol. Everybody just please excuse me for my lack of memory. I think it is getting worse. Is that a side effect of preparing for surgery? Thanks for your continued patience with me.
