| Ive been taking advil/ibuprofen products
Over the last 2 days ive been unable to eat solid or even liquid foods without discomfort or nausea. it almost feels like something is lodged. I am 2 and 1/2 years post-op RNY. Can something still get lodged? I then read an old post that said Gastric Bypass patients should not take any advil/ibuprofen products (along with other meds). I have been taking advil for the last 2 years! I never knew that was something i couldn't take! Could that be part of my problem?

hmmm not sure about lodged but the discomfort/nausea was something that came a long with my ulcer. they say those products may damage the pouch. you should see your dr to have that ruled out. if you can tolerate milk, drink some and see if the discomfort goes away. if it does, i'd bet ulcer....i know im not a dr. def try to see yours ASAP.

Tammy,
Definitely make an appointment for the doc--and nope on the anti-inflammatory meds. That was one of the things my dr. was really clear on with me--and fortunately I have listened--although I do miss Excedrin. It has caffeine I'll keep you in my prayers for a speedy resolution to this issue.
Smiles,
Becky

My doctor told me even before surgery to stop anything with aspirin and never take it again. You should see your doctor. You could have an ulcer. Hope you feel better soon.

Ahh girl never ever take that stuff. You need to call your surgeon tell them your problem and tell them what you just told us. Excedrin Tension headache can be taken as its asprin free. I just update a list here a couple weeks ago.
Anyways make that call tomorrow first thing. If you passing any type of blood through your stool tell them that also. Its a good sign of a ucler.

I have posted the updated list as of July 1st 2009.
Honey I got one from just taking the powdered form of it . Goodies and BC thinking they wouldnt hurt my pouch because it woulnt just lay there. I was so wrong! I have arthritis to and belive me I feel your pain when yours acts up.
The ucler on me was at the new pouch opening. into the intestine. It had eat all the way down to the staple line. THe line that holds our stuff in the stomach. There is no stomach left under it. They split mine off and layed it to the side. If it had eaten all the way though... that stomach acid would have eaten up other organs and well I would be dead. Its not worth that. I go to a pain Management Dr for arthritis pain meds now. One is in the form of a patch. It does help alot. I change it every other day. They will work with you until they get you 80 percent atleast pain free.
Please please dont take that med any more... please.

You're looking wonderful!!
Ulcers can be caused by aspirin and NSAIDs.
Long term use of aspirin and NSAIDs without the surpervision of your dr is not recommended. Some people do need these meds for various reasons, but you need your dr to keep out a sharp eye for any GI trouble.
I know you had your surgery overseas, so who is following you locally? Get in touch with your PCP or whoever, get referred to a GI specialist, and have a scope done, ASAP.
Hope you feel better soon.

i had ny surgery done local here so i guess i need to contact then. I don;t think it;s dangerous at this point, just uncomfortable and not eating much at all. something could be lodged or something to cause the discomfort.

Oops, sorry, I had you confused with someone else.
The discomfort can very well be a symptom of an ulcer. If it gets more serious, it can turn into pain. Either that, or a stricture, but if you haven't had stricture issues early out, then the probablity of getting one now is pretty low. So, I am leaning towards ulcer, not something blocked. Anyway, if one of my patients were the same as you, I will send them off to have an endoscopy done. Better to be safe than sorry.
