| Open or Lapro surgery?
Hi - It seems that many on the boards are quick to recover. My GB was open stomach. Do the majority of you all have Laproscopic?
I just read that someone walked 1.5 miles and had her surgery a week ago. I'm envious!

Each experience is different. I had lap RNY but when I had my hysterectomy I was cut from belly button to pubis. At ten days out I was vacuuming, driving, walking a couple of miles per day (slowly), etc. For someone else recovery may be vastly different.

I had the lap, and I am walking good as long as it is not hot and humid outside.
I do it ONLY on the mostly flat streets near my house and I go pretty slow half of the time. And I stop and talk to all of the neighbors and dogs, so I get rest breaks. If I do overdo it a little bit I have my pain med.
I can't wait until I can walk YapYap the Wonder Dawg, but doubt it will be anytime soon.

I had Lap RNY -I could walk ride a bike and had begun jogging for months before my sergery that was last week. Now I am struggling to walk around the grocery store for 25 minutes while my husband pushes the cart and I hang on. Its not from lack of trying its just whats going on.
Yes I feel like a big loser but I know that in time I will be back on the trails.

Mine was lap, and three weeks later I was strapping on the computer backpack and climbing a couple of flights of stairs to my classroom. Now I strap it on and run up four flights, but that's for the advanced class!!
No doubt your surgeon is aware of lap and chose open for what were to him/her good and sufficient reasons. Looks like you lived through it, too! Now it's all downhill from here. Fasten your seat belt, it's gonna be one heck of a ride!!

Well i had the lap to. Your surgeon did yours open for a reason im sure. I know you will recover slower because of that. What I mean is your gonna be able to do that mile but not as fast as someone who had lap. It will take a bit longer but you will end up with the same result. Just a few weeks slower is all. The first surgeon I went to told me He would probally have to do open but didnt know if he could stand up long enough to do it. MMmmm I didnt choose him because of the open part but because of the statement he didnt know if he could stand up long enough and he give me a bad feeling. The next Dr I had a visit with I knew I wanted him straight up because he was straight up. He told me listen if it has to be open he would do it open if not he would do it LAP. I did have a bleeder do to old scars inside me from other surgerys but he got that fixed lap to.
So relax heal and you will be walking like that soon enough when its your time. You will tire more easy also having the open. Its all good!

I had open 2 weeks ago.
I didn't have too much pain and as long as I keep my binder on, I can walk well. I do get tired but I just have a seat somewhere. I'm doing some of my walking in a store at least once a day. The rest of my walking is in my yard and hit the porch after a couple of trips around.
