Even surgeons and nuts sometimes don't know decaf doesn't mean NO caffeine, just reduced caffeine. The nut may not know that WLS patients need to avoid caffeine if they can because of the diuretic issue, and think you need to avoid it only for its stiimulant issue which can irritate your pouch surface, so a small amount is fine. If you drink lots of decaf coffee, then you are going to end up getting in a fair amount of caffeine as a total.
And I'm willing to bet, if there's a NON-caf coffee like beverage, then, that will have something in it that gives the kind of kick caffeine gives, which proably will also have a diuretic effect, because whoever is looking for non-caff sure isn't looking for a non-diuretic as well.
A cup of coffee--even the real thing--a day or once in a while is actually okay if you can add in the extra fluid, and keep it to just that--one a day, or once in a very long while.
