Default Is anyone else unaffected by sugar?

It seems that sugar rarely if at all affects me. Which in a way is a good thing but then again is a bad thing. My doc says its rare but sometimes people are unaffected and just really have to watch what they eat more. I normally try not to eat anything over 5 grams of sugar. Sometimes though i do a no no and have a sweet.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I think the ratio of post ops who have dumping with sugar is not really as high as a lot of people think. Probably, about a third or more do not have the experience, or stop experiencing it after a while.

IF i remember correctly from my research of the surgery.

THE statistics on dumping are:

60 percent do not dump
40 percent do.

I soooooooooooooooo wish i did. I need that torture to keep me behaving.
I know in large amounts i get the bathroom trots.
AND proly only dumped once in a year and half out. I find if i eat the sweet
on an empty stomach ill be sick. IF im on a fuller tummy i do fine.

GO figure. I behaved myself for 12 months and lived with the fear
if i ate a sweet i would be sick for a few hours and never tested
the waters for a long time. I also knew if i did and didnt react
I would slip more and more wrongs in my mouth which is exactly
what happened once i tested these waters.

It varies for me, sometimes I dump others I don't, I seem to get the hot flashes and cold sweats when I have something high in carbs. The dumping though is enough to scare you away from eating bad for awhile!!

Sugar doesn't seem to bother me at all, but I've only had fairly small amounts. We have had a lot of sweets at work during the month, and I find that if I don't watch it very carefully, I 'graze' on those sweets, and never get sick or feel full. It would be a very bad habit to get back into.

Default mornin pooky!

Well, actual sugar, I have not had since my surgery. I use nothing but splenda these days. I do find though, with the date balls I made for christmas, being that dates are higher in carbs, I feel kinda blah after I ate the one I ate. I didn't feel like , I just felt blah. The two cookies I had since I made them didn't bother me one bit. Weird, but everyone is different. I told the wife the other day, if I react this way with certain things, I couldn't imagine eating a candy bar. I STAY VERY CLEAR OF THAT SORTA STUFF. I am actually happy for you though. Thanks for posting that. Knowing everyone is different with even that sort of stuff is very interesting to me. HAPPY HOLIDAYS POOKY!

I dont know about anyone else...But, I ate couple piece of hard candy ( I mean these was a teeny weeny ones) and the reaction I got was....deadly cramps and pain.....within my stomach area and I felt like I was going to dump but instead I cramped all night long....I told myself
SELF: I will not eat any kind of candy, no matter how low the sugar is...
I learned my lesson...

Unhappy I wish I DUMPED!!!

...but unfortunately...I haven't had that aweful reaction that most 'dumpers' do! I do have the "BLAHS!" that Mike discribed...and if I drink juices...like orange or pineapple or apple...I can feel like a RUSH! (and not in a good way! It freaks me out a bit...so, I don't do juices unless I'm just CRAVING THEM!) I found that juice will sometime take away my sweet tooth. BUT...a new thing I've noticed...I don't go for cookies and cakes like I used to...but chocolate - OMG!!! - I feel powerless to! I know that this is all head...but, WOW...I'm jello to it! I had my hardest time with sweets at Halloween!

Russ bought me some Lindors Chocolate Truffles for my stocking...and I've not opened them out of fear! I need some accountability when I'm with them....if I'm alone...I'd be afraid I'd eat the whooooolllllleeee bag!!! LOL there are 50 balls in the bag....3 are 18g of fat...14g of sugar....Hey! and 2 GRAMS OF PROTEIN!!! LOL.

Anyway....
Those of you who stay away from real sugar....or stayed away for over a year...good for you! My suggestion to you PRE OPS....stay away as long as you can - and believe that you will dump if you eat it....it's great to stay away as long as you can!

Needless to say....I wish I dumped!

I was wondering if anyone else was able to have sweets with out the dumping.
The first time I dumped was with a milkshake from mcDonalds, I was sharing with the grand daughter....I felt light headed and very sleepy and felt nausaus., but after about 20 minutes it went away. Was that enough to keep me from trying other things...NOOOOOOO...
I have tried little bites here and there...and so far nothing has happened, some things really make my tummy feel bad and I know to stay away from things like that.
Like Mike I have had some tastes of things but nothing major, and Christmas day I really tasted a little more than I should have.
I wish too that I would dump and give me a wake up call., the chocolote is a down fall for me too. I am hoping that 3 hershey kisses stretched out over the day will be enough....and yes there is some protien in there!!!! LOL LOL
For the most part though nothing really is as good as it was before my surgery so it isn't as bad as it seems, just a guilty concience.
We still need to be aware of our choices....especially this time of year..tomorrow some things are going to the trash.....

Happy New Year..and lets hope we can get through this next week Making good choices...yoy/
