I was told by my program that anything you have needs to be strained and blenderized. There cannot be any particles in the food. Ok, I dug out my binder. Here is what it says about puree foods:
Puree Texture foods: Soft, cooked food, put through a blender or food processor until completely smooth. Use a strainer to eliminate all food particles in your meal. Eat 3 meals each day, spaced about 4-5 hours apart. Choose foods from the following list:
Eat up to 3 ounces (3/8 cup) at each meal. Consume up to three different items at each meal. Eat one ounce of each (1/8 cup). Stop eating as soon as you feel satisfied. You may feel pressure in your upper abdomen when your pouch is full. Do not eat more than 3 ounces even if you don't feel "full". Each meal should take 30 minutes to consume. Put your spoon down for several minutes between bites. Do not eat for LONGER than 30 minutes. Dog not drink with your meals. At this time it is ok to resume drinking as soon after you eat as it is comfortable to do so.
Foods allowed for weeks 3-4-
Cream of wheat or cream of rice
soups, pureed in blender, then strained
mashed potatoes
stage one baby food (any type with less than 5 grams of sugar)
sugar-free pudding
sugar free jello
yogurt, plain or light (but no pieces of fruit)
fruits- unsweetened applesauce, mashed banana, pureed canned fruit without juice
vegetables- soft, peeled, and cooked carrots, squash, or sweet potatoes- pureed only
Drink all beverages slowly, only one swallow at a time. Drink choice of protein supplement between meals and after. Sip on water or other sugar-free, non-carbonated, decaffeinated beverages at all other times. Keep track to be sure you are drinking at least 48-64oz of fluid AND meeting your protein goal in grams (about 60 grams or more).
Above all, follow YOUR surgeon's rules and plans for you. Each surgeon is different, but this is to give you an idea or refresh your memory. It is also good practice for me too so I don't forget what I will need to do. Hugs!
