Question Pureed Foods

What exactly are pureed foods? Do I need to liquify it in the blender before I eat it? Or is it blended enough that I need to chew a bit before swallowing? Im done with the liquid stage and into puree but I still do two shakes a day and one high protein meal at dinner. I'm just curious as to how that protein meal should go down. I haven't had any issues the last couple days since I started pureed foods so I must be doing ok, I'm just worried that I'll do something to hurt my pouch, or cause myself not to loose weight. Any pureed recipes would be good too. Thanks!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

My doc suggest scrambled eggs when I was on pureed foods. I never actually pureed anything. He just said that if I felt up to eating, to make sure I chewed everything until it was mush. I was doing protein shakes for 2 meals a day, and then normally scrambled eggs for the other meal.

Congrats on your weight loss so far!! Best of luck in your journey!

I was told by my program that anything you have needs to be strained and blenderized. There cannot be any particles in the food. Ok, I dug out my binder. Here is what it says about puree foods:

Puree Texture foods: Soft, cooked food, put through a blender or food processor until completely smooth. Use a strainer to eliminate all food particles in your meal. Eat 3 meals each day, spaced about 4-5 hours apart. Choose foods from the following list:

Eat up to 3 ounces (3/8 cup) at each meal. Consume up to three different items at each meal. Eat one ounce of each (1/8 cup). Stop eating as soon as you feel satisfied. You may feel pressure in your upper abdomen when your pouch is full. Do not eat more than 3 ounces even if you don't feel "full". Each meal should take 30 minutes to consume. Put your spoon down for several minutes between bites. Do not eat for LONGER than 30 minutes. Dog not drink with your meals. At this time it is ok to resume drinking as soon after you eat as it is comfortable to do so.

Foods allowed for weeks 3-4-
Cream of wheat or cream of rice
soups, pureed in blender, then strained
mashed potatoes
stage one baby food (any type with less than 5 grams of sugar)
sugar-free pudding
sugar free jello
yogurt, plain or light (but no pieces of fruit)
fruits- unsweetened applesauce, mashed banana, pureed canned fruit without juice
vegetables- soft, peeled, and cooked carrots, squash, or sweet potatoes- pureed only

Drink all beverages slowly, only one swallow at a time. Drink choice of protein supplement between meals and after. Sip on water or other sugar-free, non-carbonated, decaffeinated beverages at all other times. Keep track to be sure you are drinking at least 48-64oz of fluid AND meeting your protein goal in grams (about 60 grams or more).

Above all, follow YOUR surgeon's rules and plans for you. Each surgeon is different, but this is to give you an idea or refresh your memory. It is also good practice for me too so I don't forget what I will need to do. Hugs!

I had the same recommendations as Nicole stated.

Pureed - no bits of food at all. Blenderized and pureed. I ended up sticking to stage 1 baby food and it was actually really good. I also did protein shakes and puddings. 2 weeks of that and now I'm on "soft solids".

I thought all those things were in the soft food stage. I suppose maybe you were allowed those things in the puree stage. I know for my program, those things are not allowed until weeks 5 and 6 (stage 3). My program has 4 stages, well 5 if you could the clear liquid part. So here is how my program goes:

Stage one- clear liquids
Stage two- Full liquids
Stage three- puree foods
Stage four- soft foods
Stage five- solid foods

But I am sure each program is different. I would suggest that if you have questions to call your surgeon to get clearification. Hugs!!

Me either. I was on soft foods the day I was discharged from the hospital. By week 3 I could introduce saltines and meat cooked to pieces in the crockpot.
