Do you know of anyone that has gained their weight back? How could this happen, with the dumping syndrome and your stomach being so small?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Default hello again jb!

WELL, actually, it can be done. You have to acquire a whole new way of eating, and eating healthier. SURE, everyone falls off the wagon every now and then, but some just never get back on and don't exercise. They continue to eat the wrong foods. HIGH CARB FOODS AND WHAT NOT. My mother is a perfect example. She had the surgery and it never worked for her because she, being a stress eater, couldn't get into the new way she had to eat. She kept eating all those comfort foods, and never exercised. IT CAN BE DONE. Also, the support system a person has during it all has to be huge. My father never gave her any support, and that upset her, making her eat more and more. I am sad to say that she is bigger now than she ever was. BE CAREFUL JB, AND MAKE SURE THAT YOU LISTEN TO YOUR DOCTOR. We are all here for you.

WELL it can happen, and i have seen it happen.

GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY IS ONLY A TOOL to help you loose weight.

60 percent of patients dont dump, 40 doo.
THE further out people get less people dump as well. I find 18 months out foods do not react the same way in me as it did the first year.

ONCE your out of the honeymoon period of rapid weight loss, it then replies on you and good eating habits and choices. SO to maintain will take some working at it and wise choices.

THIS is why many surgeons offer support. ALOT of us morbidly obesite
people have reasons for our eating that should also be addressed. I know for me right about at my year marker i took weight managment councling to help me work thru my eating triggers. ITS an every day battle and i have to stay in control now to not go back were i have been. THE main way in which people get into trouble is "GRAZING" they snack all day long ...and that sort of beats the system of a small stomach. IF your constantly feeding your stomach and at high calorie foods you can and will gain back.
I know 18 months out im learning how to maintain now.
AND its scary. I know that doing excersie is another key
to my success, that will also allow me to eat and enjoy more foods
and keep that balance in my weight but like everyone there are good
excersise weeks and bad ones.

I hope that helps you.

mike and Lisa said all.
Surgery is a tool, and it can be used, or it can be abused. YOU are the one who decides which it is. You need to understand before you go under the knife that the surgery gives you a quicker time frame in losing weight, but it is your brain that has to learn what is good for you, and what you need to do in order to maintain. The surgery gives you the chance to learn SOME of this, willy nilly. The rest you have to work on, and if you don't the SOME will be undone very quickly.
That is what this board (and other places, too) is for. To help each other, support each other, and keep yourself motivated through posting and reading.

Don't be afraid of momentary failure, be afraid of not picking yourself up, not dusting yourself off, and not getting back on track, because that is what is going to undo all the hard work up to then.

((((((((HUGS))))))) Pre-op learning and thorough research is the key to your success!! You're doing fine by asking all your Qs.

Lightbulb Yes, I do

Yes, I know of at least 3 people who had the surgery and gained the weight, or at least a large part of it back. I can only guess it's a very gradual process. I agree with you, it's hard to imagine at this point on my journey, but I believe that if we don't deal with the issues we had that got us to the point in the first place....it could happen.

Default Do you think that eating right will ever become a way of life and no longer an effort

Fr1endly2,

Do you think you will ever see the day when you will no longer battle with making the right food choice? You have done so well so far. Hopefully my fear of gaining the weight back will keep me on course, yet I have failed so many times that I fear it will just be the final time. If I can't master this, I don't think I ever will.

Well honestly i always have to battle it...stay aware and make the right choices or i can eat my way back to were i was.
I know i have to watch closely
weigh my self daily so that i dont loose control.
IF i see the scale go up I have to act!
NOT just ignore and not deal with it.
I have also lost and regainted so much in my life
so maybe thats a fear i carry too.
I am just trying to deal.
AND make the right choices now!
