I am 2 months postop and ran into an issue. My doctor has me on strict protein diet and is now allowing vegetables.

My problem is:

I was eating tuna fish and chicken and now I have a hard time looking at them. I am getting totally board and my taste seems to be changing. I am running out of ideas to what to prepare. I tried some steak, but it came back up.

Has anyone experienced this? If so, what did you do to overcome it?

I am trying to stay focused and I am down a total of 33 lbs!!!! yeh!!!! I am losing my appetite. This could be a good thing, but I am not intaking all the recommended protein grams that I should be.

I have tried beef jerkey for awhile. And now I cannot even look at it.

I appreciate your opinions!

Wendy

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

A lot of people here have posted having trouble with beef, especially early out. It seems to take at least several months before you can keep red meat down, with many.
Have you tried shrimp? I know it's a favorite for many post ops.
Also, take care to chew a lot -- and I mean a lot, until it's mushy-- especially with meat.

Wink Wendy....

Early in my postop journey....I couldn't "do" beef unless it was potroast...or something cooked very very long...and was very very tender. Then...didn't do any "normal" red meat until about 5-6mos. I did a lot of shrimp...fish....and rotisserie chicken. (b/c it was very moist....and mashable - if necessary.)

Good Luck as you are traversing this journey....feel free to ask all you questions...so many will pop in and answer you RIGHT AWAY!!!

Unhappy

Hi Wendy, I'm feeling your pain . I'm 9 weeks out from my wls and am going thru the same things you are. I started out liking certain things and now my taste buds are changing. I used to like fried eggs, but now the taste and the smell of them makes me naucous . I do like boiled eggs and deviled eggs though! The same with chicken. It really depends on how it's cooked. Sesame chicken is a no no for me. I tried it two times and both times there was a refund situation . So it really depends on how the chicken is cooked for me. So far seafood has worked for me. I haven't tried beef yet. Porkchops and ham works pretty good so far away. Doc is right about chewing your food very very well too. I know if I don't I feel the affect of not doing so.

So to your question on how to get over it, well I haven't found that out myself. It's definitely a roller coaster!

One day at a time for me,

Debbie

I"m 4 months out and have a hard time with steak can do some hamburger however, and roast if its cooked in the crock pot all day. I love shrimp and crab. I craved tuna for about 2 weeks and now I don't. Chicken is iffy depending on how it is cooked.
Just keep trying different things. Good luck

I love smoked salmon and ate it lots early on (and still do) I use lf cream cheese with it some times. I also used (and still do) Unjury, a protein drink only available on line, as far a I know. It's the best. I also used to take deli turkey breast and make rolls with a little lf mayo, lf cream cheese & pickles. Oscar Meyer has 20 cal. bologna and w/lf American cheese, it sometimes is a nice change for only 75 cals.
Hope this helps.

My surgeon told me not to try beef or pork until at least 4 months out.

For variety, I'll eat these. They all have a different texture and taste for chicken.

Shredded chicken and cheese in a small whole wheat tortilla
Chicken and refried beans and cheese
Chef Boy R Dee chicken and rice
Chicken salad (lettuce, tomatoes, etc.)
Chicken salad (mayo, eggs, etc)
Chicken soup
Chicken breast with tomato sauce

Also, try turkey or ground turkey for something different. Meatless chili is another good one.

I agree with Kat that Unjury is the best. They now have a protein chicken broth.

Hey congratulation on your new stomach and wow 33lbs in 2 months that's outstanding!

Well I've some suggestions I hope you'll like them

eggs in all it's format fried, scrambled, sunshine, boiled. My fav is very hot boiled egg with salt and pepper. I can't have cold eggs they make me

Cheese strings, I'm still addicted to them even I'm now 9 months post-op!

Try some chines recipes with your chicken and beef.

Try the shrimps, I crave them lately I love the Trio-Fajita at chilies Yum Yum

hmmm How about beans they are yum yum but with some control they're good carbs but take them with some limits

oohhh I almost forgot the stuffed mushrooms they were my fav. I take out the head mince it with hotdogs or chicken with sweet peppers and cheese melts toss them in the microwave for 1 min and Savaaa!

I hope you like my suggestions

Cheers,
Hanadi
