Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Well girls you have no idea how much your blessed that you have a medical support group to mix with and to discuss issues related to the WLS in your areas!! which is something I dunno why the WL surgeons never thought of establishing it in Kuwait. Don't get me wrong the RR is my fav. support group and I have definitely learned a lot but I know there are many and many like me back at home and they need to be emotionally and physically connected. Share all their experiences and talk about the fears and sorrows. What I'm thinking about is to start a Kuwaiti WLS support group which I'm a bit hesitant because the culture in Kuwait is very harsh unlike yours. People may intrude your personal life and judge you in a very hurtful way, but the heck what really matters to me is to form a group. I'm pretty sure many old post-op's are there. I myself have done the gastric band back on year 2000, then switched to the bypass 5 years later. I'm sure this technology have started before that! So how does things work in yourside? is it informal, do you need to get permissions from the medical professionists? or maybe talk to some surgeons and nutritionist to be with us as professional backbone to answer all technical questions.. I dunno I'm here to brain storm... Girls any idea?? Love, Hanadi |

| Whipper Snapper | Hi, I think that's a great idea. There is a wls surgery support group that meets in an auditorium at the hospital that I had the surgery at. It's always the 4th Thursday of the month. I haven't been to one yet because of the kidney stent, but I'm planning on going as soon as that's all resolved. I'm thinking you will probably have to get a physician on board to get started? Keep us posted. If you can't get the support of physicians, maybe you could do a more informal group. From my own experience, actually seeing and connecting with others who have had the same experiences as you is a great thing. Good Luck! |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | WOW how cool if you could get them rolling. THERE are many different types of support groups in my area. THE One i like best is run by my surgeons office staff. HE hosts them ....in the hospitol were i had surgery. USUALLY he first gives his information seminar to the new patients looking into surgery...immiediately following is the support group meeting. THE new patients are asked and invited to stay to meet with post ops and listen in. THERE is usually a guest speaker, topics vary.....and then informal meeting takes place. We split the room into banding group and bypass and we go around and talk....sometimes there is topics to get talks going but we just talk and inspire each other. I hope that helps. THERE offered once a month....!!!! I was actually asked to speak in feb or march for my surgeon! HUGS

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | great ideas girls!! well I'm not really sure if I will be able to do this but I surely will give it a try. Maybe will try to contact my surgeon although he's a very busy person. The problem with him, he seemed to be a one person team! He's the surgeon, physician, dietitian, he's doing other surgeries related to the digestive system other than WLS's so he's really hard to catch. But of course a support group with a doctor will have more credibility. although this kind of surgeries have been practiced in Kuwait by min. 20 years ago (I guess) but the supporting piece is way pre-mature and I'm really keen to do something about it because it's really stupid. It sounds very commercial suck peoples money, cut their bellies and leave them deal with their new lives! I bet we have so many unsuccessful post-ops because no body has followed them up! Hmmm what do you think guys if I start with a WLS book club, should I advertise it on the news paper or hmmm post some adds on google or any other famous websites. This requires a lot of courage from me to confront many people some of them may be mentally sick and join the group just to hurt other peoples feeling, I'm really not ready for such a pain I have a lot of them already. I guess what I need at the moment is a small foundation group and then broaden up. Keep flooding me with ideas I'm learning here. Love, Hanadi Last edited by ChuppyGirl : 01-08-2007 at 02:47 PM. |

5' 6" Height: | Do you suppose any of the surgons would help you get a group together? If they perform the surgery, it seems as though they'd like to see their patients be successful. Unfortunatly I don't have a group in my area but could find a group an hour away, unlike you where there seems to be nothing.

| Super Moderator | Probably the best way is to start out with your surgeon. I know when Craig had his surgery almost 10 years ago, there was NO support whatsoever. That is what he told me. A while out, he realized how important support was, so he talked with his surgeon and worked with other patients and staff to get one started. So, you are going to need the presence of your surgeon in some way, if only marginal.
