Default Dont think its a stupid question but....

Did any of you have surgery in Mexico? I have been researching this for years and before the idea of having the military insurance pay for this I researched going to a doc in Mexico....I have many friends who used one certain doc...the reason I ask is because if the military insurance falls thru dh and I will be self paying and its like 10 grand cheaper going to mexico....so do you think I would be stupid if I went to this doc in Mexico that is very well known to save about 10K?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

PEOPLE have done it cant say i did. I was fortunate enough to
have an insurance company that paid for the surgery.

ARE You having insurance issues? there is a great book
on the site that might help you battle with them and win!!!

The Weight Loss Surgery Insurance eBook!

HOPE someone can help you on the MEXICO option!
all the best. PEROSONALLY i wouldnt do it due to the
fact complications from surgery happen and you need
regualr follow up care. SOmE doctors may not want to
take the case on or treat you with priority when an
emergency arises. I know for me i had too times my
surgeon had to help me in an emergency post op. ONE was
not WLS related and the other i needed a emergency scope
to learn i had a bleeding ulcer.
GOOD luck with your decision makeing process.

hugs

One question that comes to my mind is, what about your follow ups? Do you have a dr near you who is willing to follow you up once you have had the surgery? Someone who can take care of your primary needs, and refer you to respective specialists, such as endogastrologist for scopes, when the need arises? Obviously, if you have surgery in Mexico, you aren't going to be able to make a trip to your surgeon everytime something comes up. So, even if the cost of surgery is less, what will the total overall cost in time and care be?
You know you are going to make a change that will be with you for the rest of your life, and you need specialized care the rest of your life. Be very sure that you can get that lifelong care locally, because it is crucial for sucess. If you are looking at Mexico, and know people who have done it there, then be sure to ask about post op care and support and whether you will feel comfortable with what you hear from them.

The final choice of whatever you do, however you do, and wherever you do is your own choice and no one elses, but check out every little detail, every single dotted i and crossed t because there is a possibility you will run into unexpected trouble if you fo for surgery abroad.

((((((((HUGS)))))))

Yes the most important thing is that you have somone here willing to do your follow ups should an emergency arise. There are some bariatric centers that have professionals that would be willing to assist you. You need to do your research on them and make sure before you go for it. Also make sure this doc is researched very well as well as his facility. This of course is a personal decision,it is a major surgery. i personally would not go out of country but again this is a personal decision. But i do have many friends who have had major complications from the surgery as well as have friends including myself who have not had any. For those who have had major complications it would have been difficult for them if they had a doc out of country. Good luck in whichever you decide. We are here for you.

Thanks ladies....I am so thankful for y'alls input, you have listed things that I had thought of but not alot. I will find out on the 19th how many loops I have to jump through for my insurance, I "think" it wont be as hard as I had 1st thought but with the military insurance you never know. Doc I think you are right the cost overall may be more then the 10K that I could save going to mexico if I had to go back for emergency care. Thanks again you guys ROCK
