| Whipper Snapper | I've heard that you can test the pills you can take by putting them in a glass of water for 30 minutes. If they dissolve, you can take them without breaking/opening them. What does "dissolve" mean? I've tried this with gelcaps. The first one got really mushy and the stuff came out in the water. The second one barely got mushy at all and no stuff came out. Is it OK to take the first one or not? What about capsules? If they dissolve in a grainy mess, are they OK to take whole? I've had RNY on 9/20/06. Thanks! |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Well i know i have read about that kind of tests on the pills... i just run things by my surgeon before i take them. HE mostly says no pills over the size of an m & M and time released wont work that great on me. BUT every surgeon has their own surgical techniques which makes for different absorptions in people. I run everything i take past his office for approvals. and there is a link on meds we can and cannot take on the board: http://www.renewedreflections.com/fo...e-post-op.html HOpe that helps some!

| I was very into reading both of you two's posts. I never knew squat about the pill test. NEVER EVER HEARD OF IT. As I have said before, a person learns something new everday, ESPECIALLY HERE. GOTTA LOVE THIS SITE. mike |

| Super Moderator | If the pill "melts", it's good, if it keeps its shape, not so. Also, stay away from long acting types and slow release types, as they take time to dissolve. OD (oral dissolvants) are best, but as Lisa says, run everything by your surgeon, that way, you can be sure.
