Ok, so I tried to search this topic...but maybe I'm not using the right key words.
Has anyone else noticed a decreased sex drive since WLS? I'm wondering if it's all related to life's stresses or if it's an actual hormonal thing that I need to talk to a doctor about?
My dh would greatly appreciate any information. LOL

With all the hormone changes it can effect it either way. Getting a very COMPLETE hormone panel by a doctor who knows what they are doing is a really good plan to do. It could be there is only ONE hormone you are low in that is causing that and it's a simple 'add that back in'..
If you are low in the testosterone on the panel that can cause this. It can also cause some fatigue and other things. This is NOT the same as progesterone they are NOT the same hormone. and yes women do have testosterone too and we need certain levels to stay healthy.
When I say COMPLETE hormone panel I mean one an extensive one, not just the run of the mill ones a lot of doc do.
Kind of how the 'run of the mill so called complete' blood panels don't look for the important things that WLS need run that include all the mineral levels, etc.
A good PCP or specialist in sexual health is the best bet.
A lot are going to say "no! mine has gone up! up! up!" and that has to do with so many things.
Plus ..sorry but AGE is something to look at too.

Well, considering I'm only 37... I'm gonna pretend that age isn't a factor. LOL!! But thanks, I'll look into having a complete panel done. This is just not normal for me.

Hormones call all start changing in the late 30's for a lot of women..it's the whole peri menopause...you are not IN menopause or even pre but it's just starting that long slow getting towards that time.
If you are healthy and still have ovaries (for those who have had partial hysteros) you are going to still experience hormonal issues. It's best to get a full out panel done and have them go over it all with you so you can SEE what those levels are for yourself.
I was fortunate to be going to a uro/genital specialist who did this first thing and we caught it early. So basically we have put my body into a NON menopause state artificially with the testosterone. So at 48? no menopause for me. I still have healthy ovaries. It works for ME. But it could be a ton of things too. They can also run some good complete full out blood panels and make sure there isn't another vitamin level you are low on or something else too.
Sometimes the simple thing --ie: blood work -- can tell a lot and change everything! in a positive way!

I'm in the same boat. Had testastrone checked and that's normal. I had a complete hyst, when I was 34 but never had the issue of low sex drive until surgery. I see the surgeon next week, hopefully he will have some answers for me.

Let me know what you find out, Deb. This is all brand new for me. My dh used to tease me about having to "hire extra help" and now he just seems confused. haha

| Decreased sex drive? I am the hired help..laughing
My husband is confused as well. But I am exhausted...I am healing and I am working so I am chalking it up to the healing process. I'll see in a few months what is happening. I am forgiving myself and trying to be available as much as possible...We are human.. smile..
