Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I am considering bariatric surgery. My doctor has put in the referral for me to start classes, so I am sure I would have an answer at some point, but you guys seem to answer pretty quickly. How soon are y'all back to work after surgery? I work "on my feet" as a mammographer/xray technologist, so I am standing/walking about 6 hours/day. My doctor is suggesting the gastric bypass, as opposed to the lap-band. Any insights you offer will help. Thanks! Judijo |

Welcome to the board, Judijo, thank you for joining us. Wishing you the best on this journey, and that you be able to find the answers you need. The average time off work seems to be around 4-6 weeks for most people, depending on what kind of job you have. If it's pretty physical, you probably need some time off, if it's mostly sitting then less time off. ((((((((HUGS))))))))) May your journey go well.

I guess your recovery time frame will also depend if the gastric bypass is going to be done open or lapriscopically. I had mine lapriscopically and went back in 12 days. those that have open do need more to recover as well as doctors that use the drains. MOSt times it depends on your work! ARE you planning on having lap or open. I also look forward to getting to konw you thru your posts! WELCOME and we love to answer questions so just feel free to spit them out our way! hugs

Thanks, Doc and fr1endly. Wicked fast answers! With that information at hand, I think I will pare back a couple vacation weeks I had planned in the spring/summer, to prepare financially for the recovery time in the fall. Heh. I just went over my immediate supervisor's head to get an extended vacation in April, and now I am going to cut it back. yikes. Can't wait for the reply to THAT email! ![]() BTW, I wouldn't dream of any abdominal surgery besides laparoscopic, unless something bigger than a toilet paper roll needed to be removed. Thanks again. Judijo. |

COOL then im sure you will be back to soon on the quick side. I know my type work my surgeon told me two weeks. EVERY field of work im sure comes with different requirements to be off work. YOU will get tired some in the day but i was able to handle it. THIS is such an exicting time and i think cutting back the april vacation to save for the surgery is a very wise choice if it can be done! hugs
