| Water! In reading these great questions...I just had a thought. Colosnow bought shot glasses...might they be for drinking liquids? (I mean other than B-52's and such) now, i must drink about 3 litres of water a day, big water drinker. I know one must not drink while eating post op, how on earth do we get our water intake? How do you prevent dehydration? Can I still drink my water?? |

Elisa,
What a good question! Well, I can tell you from experience, that you will have no problem getting your water in post-op. My surgeon requires at least 64 oz a day, which doesnt seem like a lot, but between you having to sip sip sip sip all day long (which is really hard for me, because I just want a big GULP of water), and the protein drinks that don't count towards your daily water intake, and everything else, it is hard to get in as much as they want you to, but its possible... so yes, you will be able to drink your water... just not as fast as before.
Hope this doesn't confuse you too much. :-)
Have a good day, and good luck with your surgery.

EARLY POST OP the first days home its SIP SIP SIP SIP!
early out you cant gulp.....but over time and months you
can drink a little more at a time.
THERE are rules like : no drinking with meals
stop drinking 30 mintues before a meal
wait 30 mintues after a meal.
BUT in time everyone learns how to nevigate all this.
YOU will be fine with your water just little sips early post op!
hugs

As with changes in likes and dislikes of food, the amount of water you need may decrease from what it is now, as you lose weight.
Don't worry too much about it now, everything will fall into place as you learn and adjust to your post op life.

| Hey Elisa
Well, the girls are right. SIP SIP SIP Personally, I did have a harder time very early out from surgery, getting in my liquids. I was also, advised to drink 64 ounces of liquid per day. I have a busy lifestyle, and work schedule. No time, mainly at work, to sip all the time. I tried to make up for it when I wasn't at work, but sometimes it didn't happen. I noticed it very much with my urine. Not to be gross, but it was very concentrated. I did the best I could, never getting dehydrated, for the record. The farthur out from surgery I got, the better it became. Now, no problem what so ever with getting my liquids in. Just do your best. That is all a person can do. You are doing fine.

For me, I kept a bottle near my bed at all times and walked around with it(and still do) as a part of my body. drinking straight water is not my favorite thing to do, so i would do a tea mix SF calorie free. I also found out (after mucho problems drinking) that I do better with warm liquids. they seem to go down easier and don't hurt. I drink a lot of hot herbal tea. I got a mug warmer at xmas which helps keep my liquids warm.

| I am the worst water drinker even to this day. It is so important to get your required water in. I have gotten better but it is very hard for me. I dont like water and with my busy schedule i do forget. In the begining it may seem silly but i used the baby sippy cups. I did this so i could train myslef to sip and not gulp bec early out GULPING HURTS lol.....so while home i used a sippy cup for a few weeks.
I also make sure that i carry water with me everywhere however,,,,,sometimes i come home with the same bottle i left with and i never opened it..
I now try to get some crystal lite and add it to my water bottles to make me want to drink but honestly some days i am terrible.
For me it did cause issues early out because i am prone to kidney stones and had to deal with a few of them in the early months post op. My own fault.
Do your best, sip sip sip and try differnt kinds of water until you find something you can tolerate.
Good luck.
