Question Sugar Substitutes

I Was reading 1 of the questions about drinking coffee. I was just wondering about sugar substitutes ie...sweet and low, and other sweetiners. Are they dangerous after surgery, or after a while are they OK? Thanks for being understanding with all my questions....Jerry

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Splenda is the stuff many post ops avow by.
It's okay to use sugar substitues, but most are sugar alcohols which cause dumping in some. Also, the sweet taste in itself will cause food cravings in some.
So, as with everything else, it's trial error, whether it works for you, or it doesn't.
If you can simply get used to less sweetness, that would help you in the long the run, too, and maybe better than using subsitutes to maintain the taste.

I couldnt stand artificial sweetners before surgery. Afterwards when I decided I needed something for my tea, I started using splenda, which my mom has used since her surgery. At first I didnt like it, but got used to it. Only bad thing is Splenda is on the pricy side, but thats all I buy now! lol

I too drink TOO MUCH d@mned coffee!!! LOL ...And since I've been a chronic dieter all my life (my only REAL changes being now!) I have used artificial sweetners since I was a teen, and I am 42!!!

I was so happy when Equal/aspartame came out. After years of drinking sweet n' low/saccharin (which I disliked to the point of drinking seltzer water instead of anything sweet) it really tasted just like sugar to me. If I drank/ate much of it I'd get bad head aches and kind of spaced out/exhausted though.

Then came SPLENDA. TO ME--it tastes BETTER than sugar! I hate that nasty "bad breath", sticky mouth thing that goes on about 20 minutes after consuming sugar. Splenda is just a light, sweet, clean taste to me. I use it in coffee, tea and diet soda. I drink coffee and tea as much as I feel like and don't worry about it. A 2 liter bottle of soda will last me 2 weeks--so not so much of that. I don't find that this use of the sweetening product triggers me to crave inappropriate foods, or causes me any dilemmas at all. I really enjoy it and thank GOD I don't have to use SUGAR for anything!!!

Everyone is dramatically different though. So we can give you experience hope, & faith--but not a "true" answer for you. You will have to experiment a bit and find out what suits ya!!!

XOXO
Mya

Default Hello Jerry!

I, as well, use Splenda in things, with no problems what so ever. I don't like to admit it though, but I do believe on my stressful days, the cravings are worse because of it. I find, on those days, I am needing more of the sweetener. I guess, it isn't bad, since I am avoiding other naughty things, but I have to agree with Doc, on the craving thing.
