Default Question for Doc

I went to the Diabetic Care Clinic and met with the dietician. She said she agreed with everything that the dietician at the surgery center is doing. The nurse there explained a little more about ketones and over the long term what damage can be done. So I am a little more accepting of eating carbs. When I told her what was going on with work she said she couldn't imagine the stress I was under that can play a big part with blood sugars. Also, like you said infections can too.

I see the Endocrinologist next week, but the nurse is talking about Byetta injections. I think this sounds like what I need.

Here is my question, last year before I started the process for WLS I had a tooth pulled and an implant inserted. Two months after the implant was in the dentist was checking it and started turning it and pulled it right out.
At the time I was not watching my diet and he blammed it on my blood sugar levels. Well I went in this morning and the socket has filled back in with bone so he is going to try another implant. He said this time he would stitch over it and have it completely covered for three month's healing time.

Okay, here is the quesiton, I know this will cause stress to my body. My A1C level is now at 7.5 and they won't do the surgery until it is under 7.0.

Since I am not miles away do you think it will be okay to have this procedure March 29th. Or should I wait till after my WLS surgery, due to the fact it may raise my blood sugar level. I intend to ask the Dr when I go in next week, but I wanted to know what your opinion would be.

Thanks a bunch,

Jeanne

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hmm. The implant does put you in a sticky position.
If you have it on the 29th, it most likely will affect your blood sugar level, and keep on affecting it until the implant takes completely and everything is healed. Another thing you will have to consider with this is that once you are post op, your body will be healing from a major surgery for a while, and you will be using the fat stored within your body, which of course melts you away--you lose weight, but it also means you may have only enough for you to heal yourself from the bypass surgery, and not enough to heal and stabilize your implant. So, if you have your implant at the end of this month, it probably is best to postpone your surgery until the end of June.
If you plan to have the implant redone after the surgery, you'll need to ask your surgeon his opinion, but I think at least a year out, preferably 1.5 to 2 years out is best to prevent complications, both for the bypass and for the implant.
You'll need your dentist, surgeon, and the endocronologist's opnions to decide what to do.

Oops, forgot.
Yes, Byetta is a good choice, and is one of the newest medications for diabetes, in a class different from existing meds. Basically, though, it's supposed to be used together with other oral diabetes medication, and not by itself. One bonus effect is that it seems to reduce your appetite some, and promote some weightloss in long term use, anywhere from 10lbs up to 50lbs in some.

Thanks, I will definitely talk to my surgeon and endocrinologist before talking to my dentist. I want this surgery more than I want the implant. So I might just cancel and go ahead and get a partial instead. I didn't have much luck with the last one and he still wasn't sure whether my jaw filled complete in with bone, he said he wouldn't know that until he got in there.

Thanks so much Doc I really appreciate it!
