I've lost 36 lbs starting 2 weeks prior to surgery. This last week it seems I haven't lost anything. I'm 18 days post-op. I have been following my surgeon's instructions to the letter and drinking planty of water. Should I be concerned or is this just normal? Sorry, I feel kinda silly posting this - like I'm being paranoid or something.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hello Michele and welcome! I am 24 days post op and I am too stalled. As a matter of fact this morning I was horrified that I gained a pound! I am switching back to full liquids because I don't know what else to do. I know everyone says this is normal, but is hugely dissappointing and to think I put myself thru all this for just 20lbs! Even though I have lost 20lbs since surgery, I do not feel any different and my clothes don't fit any different. Is this normal? I feel like my body just betrays me no matter what I do!

Both of you..it is totally normal to feel this way, and to worry that the surgery isnt working. However it is working and as Lisa said your body is adjusting to a sort of "starvation" mode. You are going to hit many stalls along the way however just stick to your plan and you will be amazed at the results. This is another reason i speak so much about support , support groups and even a therapist....these issues are hard to understand on our own...Hang in there and in a few months you will be in shock when you look at your before and after photos...

I had the same problem...I just started picking up again. I know that ppl here told me to measure my inches too. Unfortunatly I never measured myself b4 surgery so I wouldnt know if I lost inches...so i measure it by my clothing. Ive gone from a 24 to a snug 16. So something must be working!!!! It will come....I felt the same way you are.

It is nice that there is a place to vent where everyone can relate. I talk to my hubby about it alot, he tries to be understanding, but unless you go thru it, you can never really understand fully. I know I am jumping the gun thinking that the surgery didn't work, unfortunately my glass is half empty most of the time! I know , I need to work on that! Thank you !

Everything about you both is totally normal. If you are only a few weeks out, then your innards are not fully healed yet, in the sense that all the functions have recovered and adjusted to your new "plumbing" as CraigT likes to say. I mean, take a look at your incision sites, are they the same color as the skin around it, and not at all tender when you poke it strongly? I am wont to think that they are still pinkish and soft, compared to the surrounding area, and still feels tender from time to time. You are going to have to give your insides a couple of months to heal completely and set you down on the way of great weightloss.
So, take a couple of deep and relaxing breaths, whenever you feel something is going to go wrong, and you'll be doing well enough.

Butterfly, don't switch back to full liquids because that is not what your body needs right now. It needs to get used to more food with some substance to it now, for it to recover its proper functions. Otherwise, you are going to get it more into the starvation mode, and hang on to every dear little lbs that you have, instead of letting it go.
Along the way of your journey, you will have all stalls again and again. The best way to kick out of this mode is actually to get in just a bit extra instead of decreasing the food intake, as increasing will tell your body you are not starving, and it's fine to let go of the extra fat that you have stored.

Anyways. Hang in there, both of you are doing very nicely, and are sure to do very well so long as you stick to your surgeon's instructions.

((((((HUGS))))))

I know I shouldn't go back to full liquids. It is just frustrating. I have been waiting it seems my whole life for this opportunity (I am sure some of you can relate), a way to lose the weight I've wanted never seemed obtainable till now. I want to feel comfortable...normal

Ok, enough DEEP thoughts! I promis I will eat some "food" tonight for dinner rather than just liquid.
Thanks Doc

Thank you for responding. I guess I just needed to know that I'm not the only person to experience this. I hadn't thought of measuring myself before the surgery - so, like 'yma', I don't have a starting point for comparison. I've always preferred baggy clothes to hide in so even that isn't a really good measuring stick for me. I think I'll just stop scale watching and only weigh in once a week. In the meantime, I'm going to just believe that things are going as planned.

Michele

First I'd love to welcome you on the baord and wish you a very happy loosing journey.

Well regarding drinking water I cannot insist enough on how much it is important and gosh you got no idea how it's effective on weight loss.

1) keeps you feel full all of the time
2) great to prevent you dehydrating!
3) beautiful tool to avoid loose skin
4) I need to search the forum and link the ouch rules, you'll need this when you start the eating stage. Water loading is a very great technique to best utilize the new small pouch that you recently got!

Just keep the good work, and you'll see it rewarding back. it needs some time just be a lil bit patient!

Happy journey.
