Default I have a bizarre question

I have this problem with spontaneous expelling of short bursts of breath from time to time. Too, if I'm in a reclining position watching television my nose/throat will make that short snort nose like I'm just falling asleep, kwiM? Does this make sense to anyone and more importantly what is it? Is it going to be fixed by surgery?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I do that too. But I am on a breathing machine to sleep. Have you had a sleep study done to see if you are having problems breathing while lying down? May be what it is. Just a thought. Mattie

Hi butterfly......My hubby is on a Cpap because of the same thing. He had a sleep study done after I met him because I told him he was having the symptoms. I work for a ENT Dr. We see this all the time. That Cpap saved his life. Hes not even overweight. Tell your Dr.about the breathing. I noticed someone on here said they had never been dx with Sleep Apena until after she had the surgery. And was still in the hosptial when they found it.

This comes from obstruction of your upper respiratory (breathing) tract due to excess fat there--above your pharynx. Fatty tissue narrows the tract from your nose to your throat, and when you lie down, and especially when you are asleep, the muscle that keeps the tract open will relax, and also your tongue will fall backwards into the throad, so you have difficulty breathing.

Has your DH ever told you you snore badly? And that your breathing stops from time to time when you are asleep? Then you probably have sleep apnea due to this. CPAPs are to treat this condition.

It should improve, and maybe go away completely, once you have lost a significant amount of weight.

I do snore, but not excessively, I know that I have sleep apnea or the beginning stages of sleep apnea (never been in a sleep clinic). I was more curious about the spontaneous bursts of air that happen regardless if I'm sitting, standing, walking, or laying down. Same thing?

Most likely. If your chest movements for breathing is not deep enough (when you are obese, the movement of your rib cage can become restricted, and also the fatty tissue in your abdomen pushes up the diagphragm, which makes the lungs "smaller"), you'll have trouble pushing air out of your lungs, and the obstructed airway will add to this.

Or is it more like burping? In which case, you are probably gulping air along with your food, without realizing, and that is what comes out.

Hello,

The same thing started happening to me about 6 months ago. I had a sleep study done last night as part of my pre-op studies. I found out that I do suffer from sleep apnea. I agree, you should definitely talk to your doctor. Good luck.
