I just went to my 1 month post op appt and told my doc that I was feeling hungry. He said that was a good thing because it means my metabolism is working. I guess that makes sense. I am down 26 lbs and he said from this point on expect to lose 5lbs a month give or take. Doesn't seem like alot but the slower you lose it the better!

Well thanks everyone for the advice!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

great job on the weight loss so far----

as for the hunger---I had terrible head hunger---most people tell you to just ignore it and find other things to do---but I'm an emotional eater---I've always had head hunger---never knew what real hunger was---

it became so bad for me--I eventually developed a soup recipe just for when those times would strike---

each person is different and we all know different each center is in how they approach post op----for me it was a trial and error kinda thing---I took what my friends and the center had to say and found what would work for me---I didn't want to end up being a statistic---I had to find a way of eating that I could do for the rest of my life---

I had head hunger the day after surgery. Now if I get crazy hungry it is either because I am or have been fooling around with too many carbs and not enough protein in addition to not drinking enough.

I'm sorry you are having to go through that Tina--it must be so hard for you. How old are your children, are they able to fix dinner for themselves or are they too young? Thankfully, my kids are all grown and out of the house. My husband has been wonderful, he has been getting his own dinner, I got out of the hospital last Saturday. I'm not cooking Easter dinner today either-- I know I should feel guilty, because all Holiday meals are at my house--but I told my family I really needed to be selfish at this time. Thank God the girls said no problem mom, we'll cook, and Dad can come to our house and then we'll go to your house. I am so lucky! I hope you can find a way to make meal time easier for you--maybe after you cook and put it on the table you can go for a walk. HUGS to you! DianeB

My DD is six. I'm not hungry even the slightest. I haven't had a tummy gurgle to speak of. I'm dealing with plain ol head hungry food withdrawals! DH compared me to a nicotine addict, lol. I'm grouchy as can be. I'm not craving sweets in the least. It's my DD's egg sandwich, or DH's broiled chicken. It's allllllllllllllllllllllll in my head. I signed up on the dotted line for all of this though and I know without a doubt that in the end it's going to be so worth it!

I am doing the non-op route. At least so far, and am down 70lbs (I'll correct my ticker when it gets a little more exciting).

I can relate in that I normally "get used to" whatever eating plan I'm using--then feel quite comfortable and satisfied w/it. Weeks go by and I don't experience any significant or TROUBLING hunger. Then at some point I have a few days where I'm just STARVING--feel sick/faint, etc.

I'm on a protein sparing modified fast--but am relying HEAVILY on fat free protein shakes. When I get this awful hunger, I substitute SOLID protein (chicken, or plain eggs) because that really puts my hunger to sleep.

No way, no how do I go anywhere NEAR carbohydrates of any kind when I am in this condition. My hunger will go wild and I'll have to go through the pain of detoxing from carbs AGAIN!

Don't know if that helps you at all. Works for me. Wishing you awesome luck!

XOXO
Mya
