| feeling hungry
Good evening everyone. I hope all is well. It has been a little bit since I have been on the forum. But I have a question.
Is it normal to feel hungry? I mean I am 1 month post op and for the last 2 days I have been in a "snacking " mood. This is the first time I have actually felt hungry since before surgery. Is this normal. Now I am not binging or anything. I eat my quarter cup, but I find myself looking at the clock wondering when I can eat again. There has been a couple things that I have wanted to snack on. Now I returned to work on Monday. Coincidence? I always did most of my snacking at work. HELP!!! have I sabotaged the surgery? Did I stretch my pouch? Is that why I feel hungry?

Hi Tammy, sorry I'm not able to answer or address your question yet---Going this Thurs. for my surgery. But I am quite hungery tonight as I am on my liquids only. I'm sure you'll do just fine at work, I know the temptations are going to be all around us--we must not entertain our old thoughts, they got us in trouble remember? I know you will be strong, I'm pulling for you! Let me know how your first day at work goes.

Quite normal to feel hungry. It can be either real hunger, or just "head" hunger. What it means that your pouch has just about finished healing from the surgery, and now you are on your recovery track, so you will start feeling all sorts of things along the way.
Take a deep breath, no need to panic. Though a lot of you worry about streching your pouches, it just isn't easy to do so, actually. It's much easier to get a stricture...
So, keep on doing what you know you must do, and you'll be fine.

drink drink drink. (or in our case, sip sip sip) takes the hungries away. get out of the house! I just walk around the outside of my house, anything to keep me occupied.
Work is a bad snaking place for me too. I only keep what I "need" to eat. preplan for work. I also keep my fluids close to me at all times. sip sip sip. Sometimes its not that your hungry, but thirsty.

ITS normal!
BE sure your following your pouch rules.
EATING MEALS loaded with protein will
keep you fuller then the other products
in a meal. BE sure no drinking with the meal
or to soon after..for me i am instructed to
wait 30 mintues so you dont push the food
thru to fast feeling hungry.
ALSO drink drink drink! THAT helps.
I always had the hunger....its very
normal for some were others never
have an appetitie.
HUGS

Good morning to all, Doc, Michele, and Lisa, sounds like good advice you all gave Tammy, I'll remember that also for myself. Today I am doing well on my liquids(so far). Just can't wait to get this thing going tomorrow. Everyone keeps asking me if I am nervous or not but I feel a peace about all of it. After I will probably freak out!! Please keep me in your prayers. I'll besure to post once I'm home and let you know how I'm doing. Just a quick question or two, I remember someone saying thank you to someone for a list of what to bring to the hospital, I have been trying to find it but no luck so far, can one of you help me? Also, can I have sugar-free jello today? I would consider that a liquid. Thanks for your help--Diane

I had open ryn on jan 30, for the first month I barely ate anything, liquids only and just little sips of them would fill me up instantly, but once I started eating more like more solid soups and then could move on to salads from the 4th week to the 8th week I was hungry all the time because I was unable to eat anything more solid than soup and salad, but just this past weekend at the end of my 7th week I am so happy to say that I can finally eat and digest meat without vomiting immediately and now that I can eat solid foods I am no longer hungry all the time and I also find that where I thought before I was overeating by eating too much soup or salad, my portions have returned back to what normal should be. Hope you can understand what I was trying to say and that it help .......... kathy

| For me.... ....at that stage - I too felt hungry. But, I know that it was "head hunger"....I especially know this b/c now that I'm nearly one year post op my "real hunger" has returned...and it's much different than early on. I don't know about you...but another thing I'd suggest besides getting in all your liquids would be to drink your protein shakes.... The protein is more difficult for your body to digest....so that it will curve your appetite more adequately. Good Luck - and hang in there!!! |

Thanks for the thread site with the "things to bring to hospital"Doc. I was wondering if I could wear my jammies or nightgown, sounds like it might be their gowns, oh well. Also my nutritionist told me to bring my own bottled water and let the nurse know it's there to be measured out accordingly. Thanks to all for the fountain of info. I'll be sure to check in with you all when I'm on the mend. Diane
