Default URGENT-Is SKELAXIN an NSAID?

Doc, anyone that can help...
Is Skelaxin ( Metaxalone) [a muscle relaxant] an NSAID in any way? I couldn't find any info online that would help.

I have a muscle injury and have taken a couple. Even my physician didn't know for sure if it was.

Any help is appreciated. I was/am a 1 800 mg dose per day (The lowest dose...) but if it is bad for RNY patients I can skip it... (Have only taken 1 dose so far)

Thanks in advance.

Warmly,
Jackie

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I looked online and it is listed under "muscle relaxant" not 'NSAID'. So my interpretation would be no that it isn't... but I'm no doctor. Good luck and I hope you feel better.

Thanks... I took one last night and it has been the only medication I have ever taken that seemed to bother my pouch a bit with a "heartburn like" feel... I am still on Prevacid daily (per my doctors orders) but when I felt that discomfort I wondered if Skelaxin had any anti-inflammatory properties or NSAIDS in them... I know some medications can have dual medications.
(Like Vicodin has a version with Ibuprofen in it...Or Fiorinal, etc).
For now, I am just staying off it and using a mentholated cream/rub as well as icing it. (Pulled-tore something at the gym the other day) and let it rest for a week and see how it goes.
Warmly,
Jackie

You can look on www.rxlist.com for more information about Skelaxin. It does not say anything like 'do not take if you are taking an NSAID' or "do not take if you are allergic to a NSAID", which are good indicators that a medication belongs in that group. Otherwise, if it were an NSAID, there would be warnings not to take another NSAID with it, or if allergic to an NSAID, do not take this product.

Can cause stomach upset, but most medications have that warning on them.

Try asking your pharmacist if you physician doesn't know.

I'd just give the pharmacy a quick call and they could tell you for sure.

No, it's not an NSAID. NSAIDs are analgesics--pain relievers, not muscle relaxant.
However, it doesn't have to be NSAIDs to cause problems with your pouch, so if you have any issues, talk it over with your surgeon.

Well honey its on the list my surgeon told me NOT to take and its one they wont let me have when I need a muscle relaxer. I will do some digging for ya honey. I know when I need one they wont let me have it. So I will be back when I find out! LOL. It burns my pouch also. Yes i have taken it since surgery from a old stock I had which is a no no but I admit what I have done.

Thanks for your answers everyone! They are much appreciated. For now, my kind husband has been doing some wonderful massage work on my shoulder and ice and the pain has already greatly diminished. Yeah! I think just a huge "knot" formed in the muscle from a new routine and heavy weights and took a while to un-kink.

Warmly,
Jackie
