| Super Moderator | You should first ask your doctor who prescribes them. That said, here are some generalizations, so of course, your doctor may say differently. The medication you are taking due to comorbidities, you may not need anymore if these issues are resolved. Since most medications are dissolved and absorbed in the stomach, slow dissolving medications will be the most problematic. Some medication has liquid, syrup, or dry syrup(granules) forms, and those you can take without worrying about absorption. Also, many pills can be pulverized (broken down) and taken, without much problems. There are even some medication in the forms of sprays and nasal sprays. So, basically, you needn't worry about not being able to take your medication as needed. Just make sure you discuss this with your doc who prescribes them, and make sure it's OK with your surgeon as well.

Height: | I understand what you mean about not wanting to wait to find out until you talk with your surgeon. I hope that you find a reasonable solution to this problem and that it doesn't keep you up at night. Janae |

| Administrator | Be real careful with Pain meds, I get probably 10 emails aday from postop's who start liking painmeds a little too much. Many of you know that is became a personal struggle for me. The pain meds can sneak up an getcha real quick. Puh-lease be careful, and if you know someone who has crossed the line encourage them to reach out for help. I would probably be dead if I had not been encouraged to reach out. Blessings,

| Super Moderator | Pain meds can sneak up on anybody--whether you are skinny, normal, overweight/obese or post WLS. For the matter, it's the same as with any other drugs that become habitual and result in abuse and dependence, as well as alcohol. Or food, when it becomes compulsive eating. With WLS, with your rerouted digestive system, in other words, with the changed and short cutted absorbtion, some drugs hit the danger level in your blood stream higher and quicker than before. Many find themselves caught in the web before they realise where they are headed. Not only can it lead to addiction in a heartbeat, many of the drugs (and alcohol, too) lead to premature death, if not treated appropriately. As Craig has said, it is a struggle not to succumb to the attraction--what's more it often become a life long struggle-- so if you think you are having trouble in controling the meds, or if you notice anyone having that trouble, I hope you can, I hope I can, support that person and have him/her reach out for both professional and supportive help. For me, since I personally know Craig, when I know he's on pain meds, like with his recent back trouble, I make it a point to ask him, what are you taking? are you OK? hoping that my Q will help him keep on track. It makes me very sad that medication that was intended to help people in pain becomes the instrument for destruction of life. Being one on the dispensing side, I can only pray that everyone use the meds wisely and only as needed per instructions given you. ((((((HUGS))))))) to all.
