| Ok Question!!!
So I know this maybe a silly question but, I have to ask... Ok I know when you have surgery it is just a tool, so what if I didn't have the surgery and did the diet the exact same way, wouldn't that result in the same. I know with the surgery it makes your stomach smaller so then you can't eat as much and normally can't handle eating the bad foods. So what if I was really strict on myself and seriously no cheating would I have the same weight lose???
And my next question is what exactly am I supposed to "drink" while on the full liquid diet? Because I am going to do it exactly the same way just without the surgery. And my doc said I was going to be on full liquids 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after then on to pureed foods and then to soft and eventually to normal texture foods...etc. So please can someone give me of a list that you used for your liquid diet time....?
Thank you so much! I also looked all over and couldn't find where anyone had mentioned it.
Jess

Here's someone else who's had the same idea and doing the "As If" diet. http://www.renewedreflections.com/fo...-the-time.html
There were a couple of threads on pre and post op liquid diet, somewhere around. I don't remember off hand, but they are probably in the gastric bypass diet forums, preparing for gastric bypass, or the Stupid Qs.

I often wondered that myself. If doing it that way would work. My honest opinion with that question....I wouldn't think it would, only for the simple reason people like us cannot diet. It is very easy to go on a very very strict diet, and when you get overwhelmed with urge to eat "naughty", you just do it, and tell yourself that you will start fresh tomorrow. That tomorrow never seems to come. I would think that you would always feel hungry. I had went on many diets before surgery, and not one worked because I did feel hungry all the time. Never satisified. Sure, for a few minutes after, but as the minutes went by, I started to think of my next meal, and that meal always came sooner than it should have. I don't at all, mean to go against what you are trying to do. Don't get me wrong. I do wish you the best of luck in trying something new. We all have done it, and maybe it will be what you have been looking for. I just found it to be true in my case, that I just could not diet. When I did try, after a few days, the overwhelming urge to eat got severe, and BAM!, I would go and eat everything in site, and I do mean everything. That is when I would tell myself.........tomorrow. Again, mikeesgirl, if you do try it, and it works, GREAT! I do wish you the best.

Hi there...
I look at my surgery as a leash. I have known for along time what i needed to do, i do it for a little while and then I stray away and thats how the weight always came back. Even to this day my took is working for me. If i eat to much or to fast or the wrong thing, i feel ill, i feel sick , i get sick...Knowing this It is usually a good deter for me. Some days i test it and I pay for that. But in general it teaches me every day and reminds me every day to watch what i eat. I couldnt do that alone.

FOR me personally the surgery has fixed my birth defect of over indulgeing big time at my meals and i now eat as a lady.
I have lost many times in my life only to regain. I will just say that it doesnt allow me to go nuts in one sitting...if i do i will vomit up the
excess. SURE you can loose weight with out the surgery. PERHAPS this will work for you. GOOD LUCK!
and let us know how you make out.

Ok I know the surgery is the tool I need but what if I can do it without. I have a friend that is going to be doing it with me so we can support each other and I also referred her to this site so hopefully we will be seeing her around. I appreciate the input from everyone...and if this doesn't work then my insurance covers WLS and I will go back to my original plan. No one really answered my questions....when you are on the liquid diet before and after what exactly did you drink? Like did you do broths and protein shakes, jello, of course water...like that kind of thing??

My pre op diet consisted of very high protein low carbs...I was only placed on liquids 3 days before surgery. I was placed on Medifast chocolate.
Post op initially i lived on chicken broth, jello, sugar free ice pops, did a few protein drinks but didnt care for them. As i progressed a bit i lived on the stallone puddings for my protein.

I wasnt on liquids pre op at all.
BUT was required to loose 25 lbs before a date
would be booked for me.
MY quidelines post op were and every surgeon is different:
clear liquids 2 weeks (any lo sugar drink u can see thru) examples: sugar free koolaide, crystal lights, propel, sugar free snapple, sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello, low sodium chicken or beef broth,
milk based liquids (protein shakes made with lowfat milk, LO sugar/lo carb smoothie yogurts, sugar free puddings) i was on this for another week.
then moved week 3 to pureed foods.
TWO weeks on pureed then up to regular foods slowly and carefully.
