Question Question about Folate...

I got my lab reports back today, and my Folate is low. I was wondering if there was something I could take to get it back up to the level it needs to be?? Any suggestions, whether food or pills, I am willing to try anything. Thanks in advance!!!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Its a water soluable Vitamin B defecincy honey. WOW alot of words. I dont know what stage your eating at now but leafy green veggies, eggs and even a bananna is good to eat for it. Even Fortified Cereal is a big help. Its come from the surgery and Diaherra causes it to if you having bouts from it.

You really do need to get that level back up if you can as soon as you can tolerate. Did your surgeon tell you this or your PCP? Which ever one told you you need to tell the other one LOL. I dunno if you like beans but it seems to help with it to. Of course its all gonna depend on your eating stages.

Well, since folate deficiency often happens with this surgery, other than looking up food that contains them, choose supplements that include folate. I imagine you're on vits and iron and calcium, there are multi vits that include folate also.
Ask your surgeon for his reccomendations.

Thanks Ladies! That's why I always come to this site, I can always get an educated answer. I will call the surgeon today to see what he recommends.
I got the blood work done because I wasn't for sure how long I had that stricture, and I was really concerned that some of my levels were off, and of course they were! But the PCP told me that folate was really the only one that he was concerned with, because all the rest that were off could have been caused from dehydration. So we shall see!
Thanks again!!!

A stricture is the narrowing of the stoma--the opening between your pouch and the intestine. It's a kind of overhealing, since our body will try to heal wounds, and the stoma is made where there wasn't any natural opening before. If the stoma becomes too narrow, food will not pass through, so the opening has to be slowly and gently made wider by a procedure called dialation.
Symtoms of stricture can be any of these:
Feeling as if your food is stuck and won't go down (this isn't always due to stricture, though, more often than not, it's due to eating food your pouch doesn't deal well with, or not chewing well enough, or the bite being too big.
Nausea (feeling icky)
Vomiting almost every time you eat.
Any unsual feeling, and the feeling that food is not going down.
If these symptoms persist, be sure to contact your surgeon ASAP.
