Default A hairy question

Hey everyone......Was just wondering about hair loss. Ive been reading lots of interesting and helpful information on this site. My question is about the hair loss. From what Im reading most people tend to start loosing around 3 months.

Ive also read that people take some type of vitamin Ive been reading. Do people take this ahead of time to help when you get to the 3 month stage. Im at 1 month post op right now. Or would this be something you take when your hair starts falling out. Also, where do you get this product or vitamin? Is it a perscription from your doctor or do you go into a health food store or something to purchase it?

Thanks for any insight.

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I think what you are asking about is Biotin. Do a search with that word, and you'll be able to pull up posts where it's mentioned.
As for when to start taking it, most people start when they notice, but I think some started ahead.

I used the BIOTIN well before my surgery and i still thinned out a great bit during my rapid weight loss months. IT grows back and we dont go totally bald.
IT was difficult to go thru, there is also a hair and nails vitamin at GNC that some rave about but it really seems to only help the new gorwth not stop the thinning that goes on. HUGS!

Arrow Hey NewMe....

I'll be honest....I've gone thru soooo much studying....researching....and looking all over for info about hair loss.

I started losing my hair around 5.5mos. I honestly don't think biotin made a difference - other than - I believe that taking biotin made me feel better....and REALLY helped my NAILS! (it may have helped the health of my hair...maybe promoting growth...but honestly DID NOT help the actually LOSS!)

You are gonna lose what you are gonna lose. I've have read from multiple sources that what you do NOW....with taking your vitamins/protein etc will effect you THREE MONTHS down the road. If that is truly true...it would make since in my case. I had a difficult time around month 2.5 b/c I was moving....and my whole life was in transition. Actually had issues until I read this info in month 6.5ish....and had a consistant hair loss thru month 9. Now....around month 10 started noticing hair growth....and now have a BUNCH of 2inch hairs growing all over my head!!!

It's quite HILARIOUS....b/c the 'body' I have in my hair is amazing....my hair is soooo FLUFFY!!! Here are some pictures!

And then...here is the back of my hair....cute and puffy....
So...another thing to remember....IT WILL GROW BACK!!! AND...Keep cutting it...it will look healthier!!

Thanks Deborah for the info and photos. That made me feel better. Your hair is nice and healthy looking and has alot of body. I can only hope. I am at one month out right now. I do take a daily multi vitamin and Im also on this other vitamin perscribed thru my surgeon, but that I believe is mosting for iron and something else.

What kind of vitamins did you take? And where did you get the biotin? Is it
sold over the counter?
thanks again for the photos.

Sherrie

Sherrie - you are right, so I'm glad that my experiences can help!

I don't take anything special...just Flintstones right now....I was taking Bariatric advantage....I take a multi vitamine, calcium, and iron.
I bought Biotin at the health food store.....and then replenished at GNC. I bought the maximum amount that they suggested....5000 just know you have to take it with food - something that has 'fat' in it because Biotin needs 'fat' to attach itself to, or it will just go directly out your body as waste.

Vickie - I'm thrilled to be back on 'here & there' too!
I've been very very busy lately...and love the weather here in NYC right now....not too hot....and taking my daughter to the park!!

(Some of you may know my history....but, that was one of the things that drove me to WLS - that I was afraid of taking 'Bella to the park b/c if she ran I'd not be able to catch her....well...now, I chase her...and we have sooo much fun!!!)

I'm glad to help wherever possible....and post whatever I can!! Glad my 'hair experience' has helped....It's helped me just sharing!! So thrilled to know ALL you women & men!!!

Hi all,
i'm 6 months past sugery, and the information I got from my surgeon's office was that none of the vitamins/suppliments actually help prevent the hair loss & that hair should start growing back around 6 months after surgey (right where I am!) I'm been taking the Biotin with some wishful thinking, but I'm still shedding more than my cat.
