Default Is less better

Most of you know here that I have been doing research about my surgeon and think he is one of the very best in TX. I have been trying to locate some of his patients to find out how they feel about his bedside manner and just his after care. They say he is a great surgeon and does know his stuff. However now I have something that really does concern me. AS most of you know I have posted that I am a big cry baby when it comes to pain. I have contacted a couple of his patients and their words are this "he is one who believes less pain medication is best" He only gives the mim that is allowed becasue he does not want you knocked out and he wants you up and moving every other hour. He feels you can not do this when you medicated. Now I have to have an open cut and I know that that hurt like crazy expeciall when you weigh 356 lbs and getting up and down.
So here I guess is my question what do I do about that considering I have a very low tolerance to pain. Do I need to just be upfront with him and tell him what I expect? Dr's make me very nervouse and I always feel they know what is best but I tell you me and pain don't mix. So what would you do if it were you.? I have been told he gives 25% of the allowed amount he can give his patients. What does that mean?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Arrow Hey there....

I'm also a big baby when it comes to pain....FYI....

I don't know where you are in Texas....I lived in the DFW area...and my Doctor is notorious for his WONDERFUL BEDSIDE MANNER.....

Here is his name...and website:
Dr. Wade Barker

I really know that you are nervous about this....and really want to encourage you to "TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS"....don't second guess yourself....

If there is anything I can do to encourage you...or if you have any other questions...please please let me know....OK??

Default Less pain, better recovery!

I had open RNY and it is definitely different that the 2 lap surgeries I have had recovery-wise. Even though your doc says less is better they WILL however control your pain, just not to the point you are knocked OUT. Less pain more conducive to better healing and better recovery. If you hurt you won't move, if you don't move you don't heal as well, etc, See where I'm going with that?

I'm probably not the best on the pain issue as I have an extremely high tolerance. Sorry on that note hon!

I betcha will do fine and have a better recovery than you are getting worried about! {{{huggers}}}

(((HUG)))))
I think it cant hurt to talk to the surgeon on this topic
pre op and see what he says. I think if you express it
like you have us maybe he can ease this matter some
for you. TELL him you have heard this from his other patients.

I know for me i hate pain......I did have a pain pump in the hospitol to
self dose as needed and mostly used it when i was getting up
and out of bed. I found it didnt prevent me from doing the walking
or anything required of me in the hospitol. I will say once home i did ween
myself off pain medications rather quickly being i hated the tasted
of the meds crushed in unsweetned applesauce...made me want to gag!!!
HANG in there and i think a discussion on this might help.
ALL the best
