Talking Really stupid question but here it is.....

I am only 5 days out from surgery I am doing pretty god but here is my stupid question. At this point are liquid stools pretty normal?

Sorry if this is TMI but I needed to ask.

Also the dr told me at this point fluids are more important than protein....I hope this is really true cause I am having a heck of a time getting down anything but water and broth!!

Thanks all!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Thank god for a selective memory !! I was thinking today how much I hated the first few weeks of adjusting to new/no foods and other issues. I don't remember specifically about liquid stool, but I know bowel habits are something that is affected by all of this change. I think you're probably ok as long as you have no pain, no bloody stuff involved, it isn't particularly stinky......and it's just loose stool and not diarrhea. If you're having to stay next to the toilet for fear of explosive stuff, then worry. In the mean time, yogurt will be a good idea to keep your bowel healthy, and maybe something like refried beans will help with some fiber. Congratulations on your new life!!

I'm 11 days post op and definitely vacillate between firmish stools and very loose stools. You aren't really able to eat many binding agents at this stage so I imagine this must be normal. Have you tried eating pudding? This won't help firm up the poop, but you can add lots of protein powder to it and it's still yummy! Hope you are feeling better and stronger quickly. :-)

Yes, and Yes. You are only five days out, so keeping hydrated is more important than getting in your protein. Just work on your protein and you will get there. I am assuming you are on a totally liquid diet being only five days out. Good luck with your journey!

I am also 5 days out of surgery and have what I call, "liquid poop". Yes I know, TMI but it's the truth. Whenever I have a full tummy, it's almost like I explode with liquid. And the smell is horrific.

Hydration is more important post op.
So, you're still in the liquid stage. If your intake is liquid in the first place, why do you think it will turn solid along the way

Yes very normal. I remember having that problem then in a few weeks it went the other way and I had to start Miralax... so goes this journey. Hang in it will be so worth it.

Sounds normal to me, I had the worst diarrhea and took that green stuff for it.
You need water and protein..one way or the other, really important now.
One thing I learned recently was if you add the NewWhey liquid protein (comes in a tube) with water, it is more tolerable. I like fruit berry or watermelon...Vitamin Shoppe will ship to your home.
In a few days you will be feeling better; but as long as you are taking a lot of liquids in, well..you will be putting a lot of liquids out.

Thanks all I appreciate all the help. This is both a scary and exciting time! I have been able to drink water all day and one protein drink a day. So hopefully I will be OK.
