| Breakfast Question
I'll hit my five month surgiversary in a couple of days. I believe I'm eating pretty good and have started enjoying eating out with friends again (a group of us go every other weekend to get out away from kids and try new places). Thing is, I have never been a breakfast eater. I know eating three meals is important and I do just fine for lunch and supper. My doctor said it was okay for me to have a cup of coffee in the mornings and I was thrilled beyond belief when I got his okay to do that. As a compromise, I decided to add a scoop of the unflavored protein to my cup and get a jump start with approx. 26 grams of proteins right off the bat in the a.m. Does this qualify as my first "meal" of the day. I'm truly fine feeling with doing that and then starting my water with my gym time around mid-morning. Every since the surgery, I've had great issues with eating early in the day...getting sick feeling and just feeling blah the rest of the day.
Do you all think the protein added to my coffee is sufficient as a "meal"?

In my opinion, it counts. It isn't any different than if you had a protein shake, and that definitely counts. Go for it!

I'm not a coffee drinker so I've not done that but I have seen whether others do that, you might want to double check with the surgeon's office to double check...in my head it makes sense that it could be counted as a meal since you added protein to it, not really a lot different than if you wanted to add it to water or milk, it's still a protein drink.

I would count it. Which unflavored protein are you using...I may start doing this myself...I usually end up skipping breakfast too, but always have my morning coffee at work.

In my opinion...and I am definitely no expert...but I would think that adding the protein is a good thing, but on the opposite side of this...coffee is a natural diuretic and you will actually be flushing that protein right back out. Not sure I would count it as a meal being that it might not stay in your system long enough.

Good enough for now. However, add the same amount of water later on in the day to compensate for coffee's diuretic effect.

Thanks for the replies! I hope the further out I get, the more I will be able to eat breakfast.
I use Unjury(sp?) unflavored protein (I get mine from amazon). I did find out the hard way that I have to dissolve it in tepid water before adding the coffee to it. (Otherwise, it will clump up) To me, it's not quite completely unflavored, but adding my splenda and sugar free creamer masks it enough that I can drink it no problem.

I say it counts as a meal. I use Click Espresso Protein powder so it's pretty much the same thing. I get my morning caffeine boost, plus a good amount of protein! Win win for me!!!!
