I know that all surgeons are different, but how long before any of you went to the gym after your surgeries? I forgot to ask today at my appointment if it was ok to go. I'm only a week out, so, I would guess not yet.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

No way not yet!! You have way too much unhealed damage hiding under your skin! It'll be months before it's fully healed, but you may be able to engage in mild exercise before then as long as it doesn't involve stressing your gut muscles. Walking yes, crunches ... no!

The only person who can tell you for sure is your surgeon. Ask at your next checkup.

Next checkup isn't until Feb 21st. Guess I'll be making a phone call in the next few days, just to get a time frame.

Don't be surprised if they tend more to the side of caution. The consequences of you delaying an extra 3-4 weeks are far less than the consequences of tearing something loose by trying too early!!

oh I agree 100%, I was released to go to work on light duty at todays appointment and will go on full duty Feb 1st. I'm sure that by then, I will be able to go to the gym, since lifting 20-30 pound weights is far less than 200+ pound patients, plus a stretcher...........lol.

You should make sure to ask how much you can lift and when, with that phone call. A lot of surgeons don't allow any lifting over 10lbs for several weeks.

You clearly can't go to the gym now, but you can walk around....
I think my 3rd appt I was cleared to normal activity. You have to be careful.
Even now there are a few machines at the gym I am wary of...bothers my incision a bit (I had open RNY.) SO always listen to your body.
