Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I take Prilosec. My doc said to take it for 3 months to prevent ulcers and then to wean off of it. I am in the process of doing that. Hope this helps.

I know I saw Pepcid in some of the literature from my surgeon. Of course, I cannot find it now! but I'll have to look because I bought it - based on reading it somewhere! I'm trying to get all of the recommended supplements before the surgery - as suggested by the doc.... now I just want my date.

Well I'm 18 months out and all I remember about the reasoning was to prevent ulcers. I was told by my surgeon's instructions that I will need it from here on out. I have to take Nexium though, Prevacid just wasn't working for me.

First I have to get this out of the way.....
ANNIE I'VE MISSED YOU!!!!!! Okay I feel better.

My surgeon wanted me on a PPI for the first month to help calm things down. My concern for those of you who were told you'd need to take them life long is that it can increase your chances of bone fractures being on them for long periods. Also it seems to me that because our pouches produce so little acid most reflux (not all) is cured. I'm not sure about the ulcer aspect. I was recently put back on a PPI to help treat it and it did go away but if we are following the rules (no smoking, no NSAIDs etc.) are we still more susceptible to getting ulcers? I hope Doc comes by later with an answer! Hugs

Med requirements can change over time, as long term results pile up.
So, even if your surgeon said "for life" at first, s/he may have changed the program to, the first 6 months then according to each patients' needs and such. Confirm with your surgeon at your next visit.
Also, yes, there have been reports that longterm PPI intake can increase bone fractures, so you may wish to confirm that with your surgeon as well.
