Default Gas, IBS, Surgery and the ER!

I don't know if anyone has had this issue. My surgeon gave me the good bill of health last week and things were going well. Sunday I couldn't move I was in pain on my left side. Monday I was doubled over. I spent the day and evening in the emergency room under going tests. Everything came out fine. They didn't listen to me when I told them I haven't passed gas in a few days. So I took things in my own hands. My doctor and I were hoping the IBS would not flair up with me being on little food and liquid diet for a few weeks. But I believe that is what has happened. I took some stool softener added in apple juice and apple sauce and I'm actually able to move today. I'm still in pain but tolerable. It has taken me two days to get a little back to "normal" with my bowels. My pain medication wasn't even helping with the pain, and it was more of the cause. So My first learning lesson since my surgery is don't get stopped up after surgery as it can cause a great deal of pain. As you are not eating enough food to cause stool to be seen on an ultra sound or cat scan so they won't even acknowledge that. With the IBS my bowel swelled it put pressure on my surgery wounds and down I went. I will be seeing my surgeon every week now for the next few weeks. And now I'm back on liquids for another week.
Anyone else have ideas or been through this?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Wow, what an ordeal. I have some diverticulitis issues and my surgeon has suggested I do stool softeners and/or fiber on a regular basis to stay clear of issues.
I have some gas problems but these are usually food driven-biggest offender, broccoli. Gas X has really helped (meltaways.)
I always say we need to listen to our bodies, we know them the best.
THanks for sharing. I hope you are feeing better.

Hey Anna, I haven't experienced your specific problem but I can relate to your ER visit where it seems some don't listen. I've come to realize though after being sent to the ER a few times that all the testing they put you through (CT scans, barium swallows, x rays etc.) are for good reason. When we've been through such a major surgery there is always that small chance that we may have a serious complication going on, i.e. a leak, stricture, hernia and so on.
I'm sorry you had to go through all that pain but am glad you are feeling better now and being monitored by your surgeon.
Keep us posted on how you're doing and hugs.

Good luck Anna! I hope that the IBS does better as you progress with your diet. That sounds miserable. Having said that, I get the impression that virtually ALL of us have intestinal issues since our surgery and are supplementing with something to keep things moving. I'm glad you are feeling better.
