| Sudden Lower Blood Sugar Making Me Sick
I have experienced this about 3 times in the last month. I will suddenly start shaking, and I will keep right on doing it until I eat something. I have checked my blood sugar during these incidents and it is always around 80. I know that is not that low, but I never was below a 100 when I was on a routine of insulin. I never can tell when it is coming on, either, and I'm worried about it happening when I am away from home. What is going on here?

Probably wouldn't hurt to let the doctor know.

| Hey CS, I've been experiencing some low sugar episodes also. It's not like the old days when I could grab a piece of candy and get a quick fix. My sugars will drop to between 65 and 70 and it feels awful! Back before surgery I remember this would happen after having a spike in my glucose and then the drop. Even though it wasn't dropping really low, I would still have the same symptoms like you. It's scarey!
I asked about this very issue at my support group last week and what I could do to help the situation and the NP said to try and take in more complex carbs during the day to help keep the sugars more stabilized. I guess that means eating more beans!
I hope Doc comes on and helps us understand this more. We should try doing a search because I'm sure others have posted about it.
Hugs |

I'm not happy that you have this problem, but it's kind of nice to know I'm not alone. But if I eat any more beans than I do right now, I can hire myself out to gas station!!!!

| I'm acting about 12 today too Nell! CS, your comment keeps making me think about about how I always tell my DH that if we could just find a way to bottle all his methane we'd be rich! I'm now realizing I better keep my mouth shut because what goes around has already come back around! LOL I guess if we did find the way to bottle the gas we could be twice as rich! verthet op:
Sorry we got a little off topic but I think we were all over due for a good laugh! |

The medical definition of hypoglycemia is below 60.
FYI, I'm non-diabetic, and my fasting blood sugar is around 85-90, the lowest reading I remember is 74(missed breakfast, right before lunch), and never any symptoms.
If you are having symptoms at higher levels, the drop of blood sugar is steep--drops from a high amount too quickly-- rather than due to absolute hypoglycemia. Check your blood sugar 30 minutes and at 1, 2, and 3 hours after eating. That should give you (and your dr, if s/he knows how to read blood sugar levels) what's going on, and how to deal with it.
Also check out the following thread. http://www.renewedreflections.com/fo...oglycemia.html
How are you spacing your meals? 3 meals only? If so, you may need to add a small protein + carb snack in between, and balance out your food intake to 3 meals plus 2-3 small snacks per day, or, 5-6 meals of same amounts. Even if your surgeon's insturction is 3 meals only, if you experience hypoglycemic episodes, in this case, you will need to reevaluate your sugar levels and food intake, and use the pattern that best helps avoid hypoglyemia.
