Hey Everyone, I just had a few questions and I know your are all so good with your advise and etc..... One is and I dont know if its just me or what. But I seem to keep finding bruises on myself and dont recall hitting or bumping into anything? do we bruise more easily after surgery for some reason? Other question is, Ive read things on here about people talking about stitures (dont know if I spelled that correctly?) But what is that? Is it a possible side effect? Thanks Everyone, A New Me |

Well i think the 2nd question your referring to a stricture....thats a slight complication from the surgery...were the opening is to small and food doesnt really go thru it comes back up and out...trust me if you have this you will know barely nothing stays down even your liquids.... many people have had them and with a dialation or two were they stretch the opening its improved. AS far as brusieing im sure there are many reasons why. FOR some it can be a vitamin deficienty thingie causeing the bruiseing and for others its the less padding from looseing that causes it. IT gets better i recall that phase of bruises......

The bruising can be from a number of reasons. How is your blood cell count, and platelet count in particular for one? Also, are you on any anti-clotting medication, that will cause bruising, too. Vitamin deficiencies are also causes. If it's been going on for a while, you MUST ask your surgeon. A stricture is, as fr1endly said, the narrowing of your stoma-the opening of your pouch to the intestine. It's a kind of an over-healing of your body, as your body will try to close any opening that is not natural. The staples help keep the opening open, but sometimes, they aren't that successful. Signs of a stricture are being unable to keep your food, and sometimes even the liquids, down, and that getting worse. If you feel funny, call your surgeon pronto, do NOT fiddle around and wait. ((((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.

Hey Doc and Lisa, Thanks for your scoop and information. Doc I did call my surgeons office and they recommended me to add some vitamn C, 500 mg to my daily intake. So Im going to stop on the way home from work and get some. They recommeneded twice a day. I do go back in abot 10 days for a follow up visit, which will be my 2 month post op visit. So Im thinking like you mentioned, that they will be doing blood work. Thanks also for the information from you both on what a stricture is. Im doing great and feel fine but I had seen people mention it on this site a few times and wanst sure what it was. Sounds like I would deftienly know if I had something like that. Thanks Ladies, A New Me |

Hey Lisa, I do take a multi vitamin. Its not a chewable though. Its just a small I think "One a Day" multi vitamin. I did call the surgeons office and they recommended me adding vitamin C twice a day, once in the am and once in the pm of 500 mg each. Thanks for your help Lisa. You are always so helpful with your experience and knowledge. |

just so you know your not alone, I had some bruising. I never got "fresh" ones though, I came home sore and discovered them a day or two later. ( I think they bumped me around when they were moving me in the hospital. But i was knocked out LOL!)
