I had my group meeting last week and just scheduled my first meeting with the surgeon. I was told to expect to be there 5 to 6 hours. Is that other peoples experience and if so what could possibly take 5 to 6 hours?

6 hrs, for pre-op? have u done any prior testing? meeting with the surgeon was less than 1 hr... where will u be having surgery? i am 3 weeks post op. and I went to St elizabeths hospital in Brighton, admission testing was about 1 hr also...

I think people are misunderstanding what I am saying. This is my first appointment to determine whether I am a good candidate for the surgery and for me to get the information necessary to decide if I want to proceed. They also scheduled a 1 1/2 hour second appointment to see how I did with my instructions from my first appointment.

It sounds like you will see not just the surgeon, but probably see the nutritionist and some other people, and get some exams done as well.

My first visit was with a doctor who monitors weight loss prior to surgery. I spent less than an hour there. Perhaps they are taking the time for some education while you are there. We had mandatory classes scheduled later and those lasted 4 to 5 hours each.

My visit was about 3 hours long...I meet with the a nurse, who went over the procedure (watched video) and weighted me, took vitals....then I had to meet with the nutrition for almost an hour and then the surgeon who recapped everyone and answered my questions. After that they sent me to the lab for my blood work. I would like Judy suggested call them and find out what you will be doing. Best of luck!

wow, my first visit with the surgeon took about 45 minutes... 2nd was about 1/2 hour, 3rd was my 1st post-op follow up and that was about 1/2 hour
