Hello All! I am almost 5 months post op; overall I have been doing well with my diet and trying to get into some type of routine. But, I'm having some problems...#1 before surgery I was bad about taking meds and still post op am struggling to take my vitamins, calicum, and iron. Had blood work done last week and everything is good, any suggestions? #2 I thought with this surgery that I would not be able to eat the foods that I once loved and that made me fat, boy was I wrong! I was craving chocolate last week and I gave in thinking it would make me sick and no it didn't! I didnt eat a full bar, I ate a bite size and felt so guilty after the fact. Yesterday the family was eating chicken wings and again I gave in to temptation and had 3 wings, agin I felt shame (like buyers remorse). I know this surgery is not a quick fix and is about a lifestyle change. I usually can fight my inner fat girl, but shes gotten the best of me lately! Please help!!! I don't want to sabatoge something that has been so great.

| Vitamins, nutrients and so on: The nutritionist told me that our bodies store vitamins and nutrients... i.e. calcium,if we don't supply it, the body robs our bones for it. So, essentially, one can test "Normal" and then one day "Bam-o!" Try to work out a schedule for taking them. As soon as hit the kitchen in the a.m. I pop the vitamin and the B 12. A few hours later I pop 2 calcium pills... and in the afternoon I try to pop 2 more.. before bed, the other vitamin. I don't remember this all the time, but I do try 99% of the time. There is a calcium powder... you can mix it in liquid and "down it" at one time...(for the whole day). Once I am done my pills I am going to get it. Regarding the food- Girlfriend, you better start now!! All that work and surgery..don't go back to bad habits. Figure out a way to do it. My family likes pizza but I have pretty much given it up. It just isn't good for me to lose weight. So I tell them eat as much as they want BUT NOT IN THE HOUSE. Let them eat the wings OUT!! I go out to dinner with my family..even right after surgery I enjoyed going out. It was a little scary at first but I did it. My first meal out was cottage cheese. Yummy. Figure on a weekly menu...and stick with it. Talk to your family and tell them you need a team work right now. Hang in there, every day does get better.

Just because your body did not make you sick with the first bite of a candy bar, or a chicken wing, does not mean that you should load up on those either. This is a tool. Use it and build a new body and life. Ignore it and you can go back to where you were. In my group I met someone that has had WLS back in 05 and she is just as big as she ever was. She had lost about 60 pounds, got comfortable, got lazy, and got eating. Next thing she knew she was back to where she was.
A candy bar does not make you a bad person.
A chicken wing does not mean you failed.
A bad day is not the end of the world.
Every day, every choice, every way keep focused on what you want and where you want to be. If it were easy there would be no fat people.

I have been having trouble lately remembering my vitamins- so I carry some in my purse. If I'm out or at work then I can take them when I do remember. The battle against your fat brain (in my experience) will never end. I don't know if you saw on the news last night that the AMA has now said that sugar is as addictive as drugs to some minds. SO, that means making the concious choice to not eat certain things, like chocolate. Maybe you can invest on some protein bars like the chocolate questbar that reminds my fat brain of a brownie- but it has 20g of protein with low carbs? PW is right, those around you have to be the inner brain you lack. My hubby reminds me to take it easy when I'm going to fast or try something I've not had in awhile. Irritates me, but at the same time I know he's right (I don't tell him that!). This is the taming of the shrew all the time- you have to draw the line and not expect the tool to do all the work. Luckily when we fall off track, it's still there the next time we are faced with that decision. You can do this!!

You sound so much like me.I gradually figured out I could eat most foods again and so I did. I had alot of problems with heart palps and sweats from high sugar foods although I thought the sweats were all from menopause. I now know it was my form of dumping. and with going back to some old eating habits I've gained about 15lbs back.I've done a reality check and realise if I keep this up I will regain everything I've worked so hard for. I now keep a closer whatch on what I eat and journal. Please learn this now instead of waiting till the weight starts coming back on. I go to my monthly meetings our hospital offers and it really helps. but this site helps me on a daily basis. I'm so glad I found it.

I have my routine but there are still days that I miss something. I start my day with either yogert or protein shake with calicum. Then for morning snack it's whatever I didn't have protein or yogert with calcium. Lunchtime I get my vitamines in. Then there is dinner. And bedtime I usually get my last protein in. Hopefully this will help you.
As for your so called cheating...
I have yet to dump also. I have eaten chocolate, cookies, cake, and buffalo wings. Once in a while it should be ok. The thing is we just can't fall into the way we were. I think I ate those things too much before my surgery. Now I only want/crave it few and far between. Moderation is the key.
Good luck.
