Question Question about the Mirena...

This is a question for all you healthcare professionals.
Two weeks ago, I got the Mirena IUD, before I got it, I asked my doc if it would make me gain weight, or make my weight loss stop, and the doc assured me that it would not. So I decided to go ahead and get it. Well, since I got it, I have not lost one pound, and I am still bleeding. I don't know if it has something to do with me not ever being pregnant before and getting it, or maybe my PCOS had gone into supermode!
Any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I dont want anything to mess with my surgery, I still have almost 40 pounds to lose, and I should be losing, and I'm not! Please help if you can.
Thanks in advance!!!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Well, for one thing, you could have hit a stall, plain and simple, which everyon hits once in a while. The timing is simply coincidental.
Admittedly, one of the things with hormonal birth control is that it may bring on weight increase, so, this may have factored in to your weightloss stalling, but while it may slow things down, it probably won't stop the weighloss completely.
You need to contact your dr, though on the bleeding, that should have stopped in a day or two. It may just be that you were in for your TOM, and with the rapid weightloss, it's going to go wacky, but your dr needs to know.
((((((HUGS))))))) May your journey go well.

Honey call that Drs office back up and tell them your still bleeding. I swear if a man had to go through this they would have found a way to stop the monthy thing years ago and still be able to have kids.....GRRRRRRRRRRR sorry having a flash back to a male GYN I had one time telling me bleeding heavy for a month was normal until I insisted on a blood count. GUESS WHO WAS WRONG! LOL Hysterectomy followed 3 days later. They have so many new ways of birthcontrol now and To be honest I have no idea what to tell you except to call the DR. Ashley is right....after this surgery women seem to be more vuerable to getting preggie. I dont know if its more of a sex drive....how long you can have it without giving out........or the different ways you can. I dont mean to sound sick here but if you think about it......somthing is up. I mean its possible that the body has somthing to do with that also. Im of no help on this issue. Now do you know if BC pills work like they should after this surgery? I have seen post about the pain meds not working as well etc.... So i have to wonder about the pill. Could that be another reason it seems like women are more apt to get pregnant? So many questions to ask but yours is much more important so call that Dr and complain. You may need to get a different type. I hope this finds you well honey....

Post ops are advised not to depend just on the pill for contraception during the rapid weightlosing phase, due to the fact that the fatty tissue releases estrogen as it is dissolved to burn as energy in place of the food you are not eating, the amount great enough to render the hormones in the pills ineffective.

The FIRST and CARDINAL rule for any post op is, if you THINK something is wrong, even if it seems to be a minor thng, then, as I wrote in my first post in this thread, LET YOUR DR (the one who is respoinsible for whatever med/procedure) KNOW.

MsVickie, there is a post somewhere that links to the absorption of medication. I thinki it was fr1endly2 who found it and linked it. I don't have the time right now to look it up. though.
The general idea is, you absorb less, especially the long acting types. so, ODs, liquids and powders/granules are easier to predict the effects. Plus, some pills can actually be harmful to the pouch.

There is at LEAST one IUD (probably more) that has NO hormones! I see primarily women in my Therapy Practice and have SEVERAL clients on the non-hormone IUD. That might be something to try.

As Doc pointed out, we are being flooded w/unpredictable amounts of estrogen that was stored in fat!!! Since the estrogen renders the birth control HORMONE pretty ineffective... ...might as well have the plain old IUD.

As to higher rates of fertility after losing weight... I BELIEVE that is due to the fact that we begin to regularly ovulate/menstruate again!!! If you're not having your period because you're so heavy, chances are--pregnancy would be difficult to attain.

It's quite a surprise when Mother Nature starts "getting her groove on" again!!!

XOXO
Mya

one of the resons that they are choseing to use the Merana( hormone one) over the Pargard(non hormaonal copper) is the paragurd tends to cause more cramping and bleeding is much heavyer and can cause menstral ireularity. I myself do have the pargaud because i did not want the hormones do to hypertension But my doctor did tell me that a lot of people are opting for merana because there is less side affects with the merana. the merana is also newer then paraguard and they tend to use more of them know.
i gess what ever does the trick works for me though
