Default Can I have the surgery w/ these med problems??

I am 5'4", 286 lbs. I really want to lose alot of weight, and i think the only way I can do it is with surgery. But I have celiac disease and kidney problems (chronic stones). I am on a gluten-free diet, and I am on 3 meds a day for my kidneys, and i am on metformin for possible PCOS (it hasnt' been confirmed yet, but i have alot of symptoms).

So, would I be able to have the GB surgery?

Also, my insurance says it will not pay for weight loss surgery. Is there any way to make them pay?

Thanks,
ptkds

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
(((((HUGS)))) May your journey go well.

PCOS is no deterrent, but the kidney stones and celiac disease could be a problem. The best thing to do is ask the surgeon. You will need to drink a lot of water to prevent dehydration which will aggravate the stones, as a matter of fact, there are post ops who develop the problem post op, even if they didn't have any issue there pre op.
What does your PCP, or whomever specialist is taking care of you say? You need to ask these drs first, as they are the ones who know your exact condition. Whatever we say here is going to be purely conjecture, and it will be irresponsible on our part to say yes or no.

As for insurance, if there is a specific exclusion clause, then there is no way to get around it. If you have the choice of a second insurance that includes the surgery, then switching to that may work, but there are others who are more knowledgeable on this. Search the forum, and I think you'll be able to find some pertinent info.

JUST wanted to say hi and welcome you to the boards too!
I think the best way to get these answers is consult with a
surgeon in your area or attend an information seminar on gastric
bypass surgery and ask then.

GOOD LUCK, i had PCOS but wasnt on the meds for it and had the surgery with that.

also hope things go better with the insurance...there are people that appeal things and battle the turn downs...this site has a book that might be help to you ....
