Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I know this may sound like a stupid question but I have a question about bathroom issues, and its not the normal constapation issue. It seems like I drink so much more water now after my surgery and I dont think I go to the bathroom enough. Maybe Im just loosing my mind. But I hardly go at all thru out the day. I drink usually about 48 ozs of water or liquid a day. Maybe that isnt enough??? |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Well you are still reasonably early out so if you have concerns that your not going enough i would mention to your surgeon. I am confused are we talking Bm's here or talking pee.... I know i drink 64 ounces of water that was my instructions and i can count all liquids even protein shake liquids. GOOD LUCK but if your concerned i would mention it to the surgeons office.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Thanks Lisa for the scoop. Maybe Im just not drinking enough througout the day then. I will have to double check my paperwork later. Seems like there isnt enough time in the day to get things in. My surgoens office todl me to wait a 1/2 hour in between eating and drinking and etc....They also told me no more than 8 oz an hour. Its hard to get it all in. I do go next week for a post-op appoitment and I will mention it. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hi, I have a similar issue. I KNOW im not drinking enough. My papers say 64 ozs and im not even close to your 48. I just feel like i cant fit it and food in so i go for the food which is in turn making me drink less. i can tell i need more fluids though because my lips are ALWAYS dry. I would speak to your surgeon if you are concerned. I "pee" alot through out the day but the volume isnt there. I mean i go frequently but its not alot when i do. As for the #2's....i'm gonna start another thread...i have ISSUES |

| Super Moderator | 8oz per hour for 8 hours equals 64 oz total per day. You need that much to keep yourself hydrated. You have to remember, less absorption means not only food, but liquids as well, as just about everything that goes into our body (except air/gas) has to pass through our digestive system to be absorbed into our bodies. So, this means liquids, not just solid food. As a matter of fact, with about an intake of total 1600-1800 kcal in food, it's said that we get in anywhere from around 30-40 oz water along with the food. (This is the total of what you drink with meals, and the water that's included in the food itself--a lot of things, including meat, actually are more than half water, mostly more thatn 60-70% water). Not only are you not allowed to drink while eating, the amount of food you are eating now is much much less than pre-op, so the amount of water you get through food itself has reduced drastically. To compensate for that, you need to drink (sip) a lot, which is why most of you are told to get in at least 64oz fluids. If the amount of water you are getting in is not enough, well, you won't have much passage. You need enough water to get the waste products out of your body, and also to prevent stones--kidneys and gall bladder. Do not drink only when you feel thirsty--which is probably what you did pre op-- but drink a designated amount by the hour. Keep in mind, when you feel thirst, you are actually already dehydrate, so that's going to put you behind schedule. ((((((HUGS))))))
