Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | So if i offend someone I apologize. Um...since I've been re-wired (thats how i refer to my bypass) I notice strange things regarding going to the bathroom. For one, its not as frequent which is fine. I was never really "regular" to begin with. Second, it's light in color which is freaking me out. Light like tan-ish in color. (sorry) is this normal? I eat vegetables and chicken, ground beef and popcicles and drink shakes and eat pudding and jello. I eat regular food; things with color in it so I dont get why my bm's are tan??? Somebody please tell me this is normal. ![]() Lie to me if you have to! |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | mine are still like that too..definitely changed and before my stoma opening went 'wide' I only went every other day and then about every 10th? day my whole gut would empty out. As to the color I dunno why that is but mine have been like that for a long long time now with periodic times where they are dark but only with dark vegetables. doc probably can tell us the 'why' the change in color! --bree

| Super Moderator | The color of your poo is from the bilirubin--the stuff in your bile. Depending on the amount of the bilirubin, it can be anywhere from brownish yellow to dark brown. The pigments--colors-- of the food you eat will also affect the color to some extent. Chocolate brown to almost black it a sign of blood in your poo, so if the colors start getting that dark, (not to scare you, but) you could have a bleeding ulcer. If it's whitish--no yellow, then it means no bilirubin is getting mixed into your digested food and passage, indicating the possibility of gall stones obstructing the bile duct. Since the amount you eat has changed drastically post op, of course, the amount of bilirubin getting into the mix will be changed. On top of that, bile is put into the mix right beyond the stomach with non ops--which now is bypassed, so it's not going to get into the mix until later--but wiht post ops, it gets into the mix after the stuff gets to the place where the tube from the pouch and the bypassed intestine merge, so there's less time (length) for the bilirubin to be mixed in. Got the picture? ((((((HUGS))))))

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Kenyar I have to tell you that your question made my day. I loved it. It made me laugh. But this place is the best place to come to ask questions and we always get such good information from all the veterans and doc. We could always call our surgeons but we would probably drive them nuts with all our questions. Anways, on to your question. Hmmmmm Im gonna have to check mine out the next time I go. I dont think its light in color. Like you said, I dont go as often so.....but Im thinking my is greenish color. Which after reading doc's email I got a bit nervous. I do have a post op next week so I will mention it. Thanks for the great question. |

| Super Moderator | Well, the color of bile (and bilirubin) itself is a greenish brown, so if your poo looks a little greenish, that's quite normal. Do you remember the color of baby poo of your kids? It's somewhat greenish than adult poo. So, no worry there.
